Chapter 31 Dance Of Shadows

  • Never before has night felt so heavy, like a curtain of suffocation covering everything. The distant noises of nocturnal critters and the gentle rustle of the leaves all seemed muted and far away, as if I were strolling through a completely different planet.
  • I felt the blade's cold metal pressing into my palm as I tightened my hold on it. Knowing what was out there did not make me feel safe.
  • Sebastian moved ahead of me, his outline almost discernible against the darkness. I was concerned since he seemed to be more silent than normal. He was not one to stay silent for very long, not after what had happened to him. He had been more rattled than he had admitted by the Titans' struggle and the presence of the holy figure. It was evident in the way his shoulders stiffened and his eyes darted to the shadows as though he thought they might suddenly come to life.
