Chapter 23 The Secrets Revealed
- With my head spinning from the experience with Sebastian, I staggered back to the cabin, the cold air biting into my flesh. I was breathing heavily and gasping so hard almost at the verge of panic due to exhaustion and fright. However, I couldn't get rid of the sensation that someone was still there, observing from behind the scenes.
- I pushed the door open and stumbled into the dimly lighted room, bumping against it. The hearth fire had died down to coals, leaving the weathered wood floor glowing faintly. The darkness was unbearable for me, especially after what I had just gone through. I shakily tried to light the lantern on the table, its flickering flame a meager consolation in the engulfing darkness.
- I couldn't stop thinking about Sebastian; his words were circling in my head like a jumble. "Evelyn, I'm not who you believe I am. I never was". How on earth could things have shifted so swiftly? I thought we were on the same journey and that our love was powerful enough to overcome all obstacles. But now….., uncertainty was eating away at me, tying my insides up in knots.
