Chapter 19 A Path Less Traveled
- The gloom was oppressive. With the quiet surrounding us as dense as the shadows clinging to our skin, me and Sebastian stood in what seemed like an infinite abyss. Our bones were penetrated by an unusual cold that permeated the dense, moist air. I let out weak intakes of breath.
- Sebastian finally spoke, "We can't stay here," with a tone that was both urgent and resolute. In the darkness, his hand met mine, his hold, comforting but tight. "We must not stop moving."
- Despite being unsure if he could see me in the complete darkness, I followed. I had a peculiar blend of resolution and terror. Though giving in to terror would mean certain catastrophe, since we were stuck in a world that defied logic, where time and space felt twisted. Feeling comforted by Sebastian's warm touch, she squeezed his hand.
