• As soon as they arrived at the restaurant, Elliot talked to the receptionist — whom he seemed to know well — asking for a more secluded table. Accommodating his request, she led them to the closed-off area reserved for evenings only.
• Jonathan didn't quite understand the reason, but at the same time, he didn't ask. However, even though it wasn't necessary, Elliot decided to explain his decision so that Jonathan wouldn't misunderstand his actions.
• "I asked for a more private place so that we wouldn't become the subject of gossip," he said in a serious tone. "If you don't feel comfortable, we can go to another table."
