• Damian’s question rips me back to reality and from the depths of my mind. For a second, I almost want to spill my heart to him but quickly decide against it. This isn’t about me, it’s about them. My people have lived in the shadows, cast away from civilization for too long. Maybe if I had known they existed, I would have had more courage and tried harder to escape the jaws of Alpha Axton. But then a thought runs through my mind and I ignore Damian’s question as Grandpa Bennett returns with three glasses of water on a black tray.
