Chapter 53 - Taken

• The ringing of my phone brings me back to the present and I force my eyes open trying to understand what just happened. The throbbing in my temple telling me I received a blow to the head, I lay still and assess my injuries, it all happened so fast, we were walking and I was teasing Cassie about her and Jack, she laughed, it was a wonderful sound, one I swore to work harder to hear more and more, when she gasped and turned to me, fear clear in her eyes. Then I remember men, covered in dirt, I think there were 3, they grabbed me and forced me to the floor kicking my sides and punching me everywhere they could reach, I feel 2 of my ribs break, and my arms, both of them were targeted quickly, the next minutes are blurry and I lay still trying to clear my mind and remember. Then suddenly like an alarm going off in my head I think of Cassie. I was with Cassie, where is she? I sit up quickly and pain makes me look down to see a large branch protruding from my chest, ripping it out of my body. I swing around in circles ignoring the blood seeping from my wound looking for my charge.
• After realizing she is not with me, panic sets in and even though I am gravely injured my only thoughts are of my Luna, and how I have failed her again. I pull the branch from my chest slowly, the pain making spots dance before my eyes then lay back to catch my breath. I then pull my phone from my pocket to see multiple missed calls from Jack and a message from Daisy.
