Chapter 30 - Escape

• I hear Thomas climb out of the car and I turn to see if he is following. I hear his terrifying growl as I see him shift into his wolf and jump on the first man approaching the vehicle. I turn back around and continue onwards, I can hear the fighting and I run, I move as fast as I can in my weakened state, crashing through the brush and stumbling over roots, running deeper into the forest. I dare not look back again, it will knly slow me down, instead I keep.going, moving forwards. After a little while I hear what sounds like a roar and then I hear Thomas scream, the sound chills me to the bone and I fall, landing hard, I feel my wrist snap and cry out in pain. Then Thomas' voice breaks me from the fog of pain clouding my mind.
• "Run Cassie, don't stop!" He screams and his voice reverberates around me, pulling me from my stupor, "Run Love and don't look back" then he screams again and everything falls silent. The silence is pressing down on me, causing my breath to stick in my throat and I know, without a shadow of a doubt that Thomas, just like Luna Lily has died for me. He gave himself up to give me time to escape. How can I go on knowing how many have sacrificed themselves for me? How do I carry on, when I don't know where I am? All I know is I am alone, alone and weak and injured, what chance do I have? I snap out of it as I hear twigs snapping behind me, I pull myself up with my good arm and keep moving.
• I'm slow, they should have caught me by now, but they seem to be enjoying the chase, such as it is, I can hear them jeering at me and joking between themselves as though they are simply out for a stroll. The sun has risen high in the sky when one of them calls out to me.
