Chapter 25 - Like A Pup
- Thomas - Dr Thorne and I do everything we can think of trying to convince Cassie to wake up, we cajole, we make promises, we bargain with her, just hoping she can hear us and will fight to come back to us. After her hand squeezed mine we couldn't contain our excitement, we were so close to being past this, so close. So for the next 2 days, if I wasn't with Cassie, I was packing up our things so we are ready to leave as soon as she feels up to it. I asked Luna Lily to help me by packing Cassie's more intimate items, I didn't want to invade her privacy and she also helped me by packing the toiletries Cassie would need. After we packed most of what we were going to take, Alpha arranged to have it all transported to the new pack so it would all be there waiting for us and we could travel light. I handled all of this in bursts and between those bursts I continued to sit with her and talk through all the plans I had thought of, holding her hand and stroking her hair, Luna had been giving her bed baths so she would be comfortable when she woke. I had been brushing her hair everyday so it was smooth and shining in the soft light that filtered through her window. Finally on the 12th day after she rejected that scum, she slowly opened her beautiful eyes, she frowned and blinks furiously, then she stretched her arms above her head and gave an almighty yawn, before turning her head and looking at me with a small smile gracing her lips. The despair I was expecting was nowhere to be seen, she looked like she had just woken up from a deep sleep and that nothing more had happened. Dr Thorne and Luna Lily had shirked all their responsibilities for the past 72 hours and had been here, waiting, and when they saw her open her eyes they sucked in a breath. Dr Thorne stepped forward checking her vitals once again before she finally spoke. Her voice was scratchy and weak, but it was hers, and it was the most wonderful thing I had heard in my life.
- Cassie -
- "Hey," I croaked out, I felt exhausted but there was no pain, my whole body ached though and the full body stretch felt incredible, I always did love a good stretch. I watched as Luna Lily's eyes filled with tears, as Dr Thorne busied himself with checking me over and as Thomas rubbed his eyes and then stared at me as if he might miss something if he blinked. I wasn't sure what all of this was about to be honest, everything was a little fuzzy in my memory. I tried to look internally to clear up my memories but something was blocking them, I couldn't remember a thing, not even how I got here.
