Chapter 42

• Emma closed the connection with Asher and fell on the bed, defeated. Tears ran freely down her cheeks, apparently she still had some energy left to cry, but not to use her body. She felt too exhausted.
• Now she understood Endora when she told her that she could not always communicate with her and that it took a lot of effort to do so. She felt as if she had suffered a brutal sugar crash and was about to visit the gates of heaven; at least she hoped so, for she had just realized that she was suffering a hell in her own life.
• She lay on the bed in fetal position and cried until her chest and throat hurt. She didn't know how to be quiet without telling him that she had heard every one of his words. She didn't know which part of everything she heard hurt the most. It was terrible.
