Chapter 17

• "You're not leaving the house, Emma," Ethan said as soon as they entered. "And you're not going to be alone with that man. You're not going to be alone with anyone!"
• Her brother scratched his face in a nervous gesture and began to walk around the room in an aimless manner. A part of her knew that Ethan was right, but then another part of her resisted the idea.
• "I'm not going to put myself in a cage again. I came here with a dream to be free, to be like everyone else, to have a normal life. I'm not going to lose that," she complained, and went to the sofa to lie down. She was cold, her body ached from the fall, and when she tried to cover herself with a blanket, she realized she had left it outside.
