Chapter 24
- "Emma!" her brother burst into the cabin, screaming her name in anguish. Since her escape from Asher, she had been immersed in reading her great-great-grandmother's diary. It was the only thing that had kept her from leaving the cabin and giving in to whatever he might want. She was grateful she hadn't, given the shocking revelations about the deep affliction Endora had endured at the hands of the man she loved. Emma didn't want to end up like her.
- The startle caused Emma to throw her great-great-grandmother's Grimoire into the air, and the book landed on the floor with a heavy thud.
- "God, what a scare! Are you trying to give me a heart attack?" she muttered annoyed and bent down to pick up the book almost without looking at him.
