• Luis picked up the phone to call Adele right then and there. Maybe if he handled everything well, he would benefit. Surely Eva must not know anything either because of the plans she heard her dad is making for Bella. He stopped thinking and dialled Adele, who immediately answered.
• "Tell me, Luis, why are you calling me at this hour? I'm working," she replied, annoyed. "I told you I'll meet you in two days; I'm too busy."
• "That's not why I'm calling you, Adele." He spoke to her as quietly as he could so no one at work would overhear. "The man I put on surveillance who you asked me to says he has some very interesting news about the one you say is your fiancé, but he wants you to pay him first before he talks. What he has to tell you, he says, is very substantial, he thinks you don't know, my dear, and apparently, he was keeping it very secret."
