• Upon returning home, Adele's first move was contacting James' younger sister Caroline. Only a year apart, the girls had been friends though Caroline was far more astute than her appearance suggested. Adele knew securing her blessing was essential to ensnaring James.
• Dialling Caroline's number, she adopted her sweetest tone. "Hello Christie, it's Adele! I wondered if you fancied meeting up?"
• "Hi Adele! Funny you called actually - I'm just shopping if you'd like to join me for a coffee?" Caroline responded brightly.
