Chapter 70

• Nathalie began explaining that she and Ethan had started dating shortly after she moved into her new apartment, deliberately avoiding going into detail about what "dating" entailed. Her parents might not be overly concerned at the moment, but she was sure their perspective would change if they knew about all the intimate moments she and Ethan shared throughout the apartment, including on the chair her parents were currently occupying. Before she could become lost in those memories, she continued, "So, we've been seeing each other on and off for about four months, and we made things official just after New Year's Eve. And yes, I do know his daughter, but that wasn't because Ethan introduced us." She hesitated, hoping the next revelation would be received well, but just as she was about to speak, her father interrupted with an exclamation.
• "Bloody hell, Nathalie, you must be joking!"
• "What's going on?" her mother asked, her gaze shifting between Nathalie and her father.
