Chapter 69

• Ethan hadn't mentioned Nathalie's birthday yet, and she trusted he would honor his promise to treat the evening like any ordinary night. Although, perhaps not exactly ordinary, as Ethan intended to stay over even though it was his week with Rosie. Elise was more than happy to keep Rosie for an additional night, although Ethan had to fabricate a reason for needing her to babysit during his scheduled time. He couldn't exactly reveal that he was spending the night with his daughter's teacher. Despite disliking that he had to spend time away from Rosie, Nathalie appreciated that he chose to be with her, demonstrating his considerate nature.
• While Ethan was singing "Sweet Caroline" loudly in the shower, the doorbell rang. Nathalie reluctantly made her way to the door, hoping it wasn't Anna. They had been steering clear of each other after a particularly awkward conversation, and today was not ideal for reopening that can of worms. When she opened the door, her heart sank. Ironically, she would have preferred encountering Anna at her doorstep.
