- Nevertheless, she had spent the entire day oscillating between sleep and tears, beyond the point of trying to make something of her free Friday. Thank goodness she had plans with Trixie to unwind at the only proper bar in the tiny town, drowning her troubles.
- After Nathalie's third beer, Trixie leaned in and advised her to pace herself.
- "I know I said we should get wasted," she murmured, moving closer so no one else could hear, "but this is a bar, Nathalie. Parents might be here or could walk in any minute. Parents drink too, you know. They could see their kids' new teacher drunk and you'd lose their respect before you even had a chance to really earn it."
