• Breaking the news to Rosie was no simple task, largely because Elise had an uncanny knack for sensing that today was the day Nathalie would transition from being Rosie's teacher to becoming her father's significant other. Elise was decidedly not supportive of this idea—not in the slightest. In fact, she was the one who informed Grace's mother, fully aware that this would lead to an immediate spread of the gossip.
• It was almost humorous to think about how much effort Nathalie and others had invested in preventing Anna from doing exactly that. If they had known in advance how things would unfold, they might have just let the situation evolve naturally.
• However, allowing it all to happen also meant that Anna and Newton might never have met, which would have been unfortunate. Nathalie didn't spend much time at her apartment, except on the days when Ethan had Rosie, but those few days were enough for her to notice Newton's frequent—and perceptibly loud—visits.
