Chapter 8 Signing The Documents 2

  • Two hours after I arrived at my parents' house, my father arrived very happy, he entered the living room where my mother and I were sitting on the couch, noticing that we were both very serious, he gave me a kiss on the head and sat next to us on the sofa.
  • " Is something wrong, sweetheart? It looks like you've come from a funeral by the looks on your faces " my father said.
  • As best as I could, and even though a tear fell from my eyes, I told my father the same thing I told my mother, only he suddenly got up from the sofa very angry, approached the bar cabinet and poured himself a drink while looking at my mother.
  • " Who does that clown think he is to tell my little girl what to do now? Besides Sofia, you can have more children, you don't have to endure that man's threats " my father said.
  • " Dad, it's not about threats, it's about him ruining us and myself, and I can't allow that, for you and for me " I told my father.
  • " But Sofía, marrying a stranger never brings anything good, especially not with that Harris, a womanizer, a playboy who has slept with more women than can be counted on two hands. Do you think he won't be unfaithful to you and make your life impossible? Please think about it, daughter " my father said, as seconds later we heard the ringtone of my phone. I got up from the couch, grabbed my bag, and took out my phone, seeing a number I didn't recognize. But imagine who it was,
  • " Is this Sofía López? " they asked me.
  • " Yes, it's me. Who's calling? " I asked.
  • " I'm Mr. Harris's assistant. He wants to meet you for dinner. The driver is on his way to your parents' house to pick you up " said the man, ending the call.
  • " Who was it, daughter? " my mother asked, tears falling down her cheeks.
  • " It was Mark Harris's assistant. I'm sorry, but I have to go. He's waiting for me " I told my parents.
  • I hugged my mother, who hugged me so tightly that I thought I was going to run out of air in my lungs, and without stopping kissing me, my father did the same, although you could tell how angry he was. But I had to leave because I didn't want Mark Harris's threats to come true. I had to make sure that no one pointed fingers at my parents and that the tabloids didn't drag them into misery. I left my parents' house, accompanied by them to the entrance, seeing outside on the street the car that Mark Harris had sent to pick me up. After hugs and tears from my parents, I approached the vehicle, opening the door the driver, and we left for where Harris was waiting for me. When the driver stopped the vehicle, I realized we were at the entrance of a luxurious restaurant in the city. The driver opened the door for me to get out, and I entered the restaurant, seeing Mark Harris at the entrance smiling as soon as our eyes met. Harris put a hand on my back, just brushing it, and led me inside the restaurant, accompanied by the restaurant's maitre d' to a private booth at the back of the restaurant, where we could be in privacy without anyone bothering us. A waiter approached our table for us to decide on the order, but I preferred Mark to order for both of us since I wasn't familiar with the food at that restaurant. As soon as the waiter left, Mark poured wine into the two glasses on the table.
  • " After the conversation we had in one of my offices with my lawyers, is there anything else you want to know about me, Sofía? " Harris asked me.
  • " I think everything has been said. The only thing I still wonder is why me? I know you told me that little Cintia is my daughter, but why didn't you leave things as they were? Why did you get involved in my life when I don't know you at all? " I asked, furrowing my brow, as Harris didn't make it easy for me, as he was a cold and distant man, or at least that's what it seemed.
  • " We need to talk, you and I, about certain matters regarding my daughter Cintia. That question you just asked is now meaningless since you have signed the documents and in two days you will be mine, my wife. I told you when I met you, marrying the daughter of the woman who destroyed my mother and her marriage will be a pleasure for me. But I assure you, I will not do it out of love, but out of revenge " he said very seriously, feeling my body trembling like a leaf, wondering how cruel the revenge the man in front of me would make me pay for the mistake my mother made years ago.
  • " My daughter Cintia, as I mentioned before, needs a mother and I don't want her to suffer if you and I don't get along. I hope you fulfill your role as a wife and mother. Even though she is very young, she understands everything and I don't want her to feel bad if you and I end up divorcing. Have you understood? "
  • " I agree with you, but what do you expect if my daughter does not accept me? I have never raised a child and I don't know if I will be able to do it this time with my own daughter " I replied.
  • " That's why after dinner, we will go to my house. Cintia is probably already asleep, but I want you to focus solely on her tomorrow. We will kiss and do what is normal for a couple. I want to see how my daughter reacts to you " said that cold and calculating man.
