Chapter 1 Surprise Visit

• My name is Sofia Lopez and I am a partner at a very important law firm in New York. I am twenty"eight years old, brunette, with eyes the color of honey, and I can handle any difficult case, except for the one that showed up in my office one day without warning."
• "Sofia, Mr. Mark Harris is here, he says he needs to talk to you urgently," my secretary Lina told me.
• "Mark Harris? I don't have any appointment with that man, nor do I know who he is. Tell him to schedule a meeting with you, Lina. I'm very busy right now," I replied.
• Lina left my office, while I continued preparing the documents for the trial I had in three days. Suddenly, I heard a loud bang on the door of my office. I looked towards the door and saw a very tall man entering, dressed in a very expensive suit, with a tan complexion, black hair, and eyes as green as emeralds.
• "I need you to see me now," he said, shouting.
• "Excuse me, but I only see clients by appointment. I'm very busy right now," I said, getting up from my chair and approaching the man.
• "I can't wait. You're a lawyer, right? I'll pay you whatever you ask for. Money is not a problem. What I want from you is to marry me," he said, making me laugh.
• "I don't need your money, but you do need a psychiatrist. However, if it's so urgent, please have a seat and tell me what the matter is that you need to discuss with me," I said.
• "I am the CEO of the Harris Telecommunications and Transport company," he said, making me laugh.
• "I don't know you at all, and besides, I have a fiancé," I said.
• "Look at these photos, miss, and tell me if you're still going to marry your fiancé," he said, handing me a large envelope.
• When I opened the envelope and saw the photos of my fiancé entering a hotel with a woman I didn't know, there was another photo taken inside the room of them both naked making love, and several more. I was left speechless.
• "Will you marry me now, Miss Lopez?" he asked.
• "Where did you get these photos, Mr. Harris?" I asked.
• "I had a detective follow you and your fiancé. I wanted to make sure I made the right decision in choosing you as the mother of my daughter and my wife," he said.
• "Why me? There are many girls who would be delighted to be the wife of a billionaire."
• "Because your mother was my father's mistress and the reason my parents divorced when you gave birth to a girl who is now, as I said, my daughter. I know where you come from and almost your entire life. If you don't want everything to come out in the tabloids, I hope your answer is yes. Your secretary has my phone number. Good day," he got up from the chair, opened the door of my office, and left without saying anything else.
• After Mark Harris left my office, I gathered all the documents on my desk, put them in the drawer very nervously, got up from my chair, grabbed my purse from the hanger, and left. I needed to urgently talk to my mother since Harris threatened to publish my life in the tabloids.
• "Sofia, I need you," one of my partners said.
• " Not now, Davis, I have to leave urgently " I replied very nervously.
• " Lina, if someone calls me, schedule them for this afternoon, please, because I have to leave now " I said.
• I approached the elevators, got into one of them to go down to the parking lot where I had my car, then I went up to my vehicle, started it nervously, and left the building to the townhouse where my parents lived. I arrived and parked the car on the street, rang the doorbell, and Nancy the maid opened the door.
• " Good morning, Sofia " she said.
• " Is my mother at home, Nancy? " I asked as we entered the house.
• " Yes, dear, she's in the pool. Would you like something refreshing to drink?"
• " Yes, please, it's very hot today " I replied.
• I went straight to the pool, seeing my mother lying on one of the loungers sunbathing.
• " Good morning, mom " I greeted.
• " Sofia, darling, you finished work early today, I'm glad we can have lunch together " she replied.
• " The truth is, I came for another reason, mommy " I said seriously, sitting down as my mother made me sit next to her.
• " What's wrong, Sofia? Did you and Hugo have a fight, isn't that it?"
• " That's another issue, mom. Do you know a certain Mark Harris? from the communications company that bears his name? " I asked, seeing how my mother's expression changed.
• " Why are you asking that, Sofia? Yes, we know them, your father and I. The father just died in a car accident " she replied.
• " Mom: were you the lover of Mark Harris's father? " I asked, seeing how nervous my mother became with my question.
• " Sofia, I don't understand why you're so interested " she replied.
• " Mom, please answer the question " I demanded.
• " Sofia, dear, I fell madly in love with William Harris, we were seeing each other in secret for two years until your father found out and gave me an ultimatum. But why do you ask? " she said.
• " Today, Mark, one of his sons, came to my office, proposed to me, and told me about it. Although I didn't believe him at first, I needed you to tell me. He threatened to unearth your secret if I don't accept his proposal, and he also found out that I gave birth to a girl two years ago " I told her.
• " Daughter, what are you going to do? You're engaged to Hugo."
