Chapter 55

  • Jason's POVI carelessly stroked my fingers over Megan's golden hair while soaking in the morning sunlight that filtered through the curtain's gaps. Her little grin touched my skin as she slept, and I could feel long, steady breaths fanned on my neck. I traced the scars that were hidden under her shirt as I ran my fingertips down her spine. She moved as I was holding her, and when she opened her eyes, her long eyelashes brushed against my skin.Saying "Good morning, Sweetheart." I gave her a kiss on the head and said hello.the question "What time is it?" She moaned and lowered her head even further into my neck while placing her hands on my body. I turned to the side and caught a glimpse of the alarm clock on the nightstand. Why is it nearly ten? She rapidly attempted to sit up, but my arms prevented her from doing so.The question "What are you doing?" She questioned and made another attempt to get away from me. "We're running late." I placed her back on my chest after gently yanking her away. It's all right, I reassured her. "All of the hard training is on hold today." By stroking her back and bringing her near, he was attempting to cheer her up. Additionally, I simply want to stay in your arms longer. I buried my nose in her hair to make a mental note of her aroma while she remained silent. It was tranquil and reassuring to be able to hug her and enjoy the warmth of the sun.How long will we be here? She at last enquired."However long we want," I said, planting another kiss in her hair.Megan's POVWe grew too hungry to remain in bed as the afternoon sky sat high. Jason had been called to a meeting during lunch, so I had the pleasure of spending the afternoon with his mother. As we collected all the ingredients to make cookies, something we wanted to do to pass the time, the kitchen was a little disorganized. As I mixed together all of the dry ingredients, the chit-chat at the beginning was a little uncomfortable and I wasn't really sure what to speak about. The discussion became more comfortable as we advanced in our baking, and the air surrounding us stopped seeming oppressive. We sat down at the table together as the air was filled with the lovely scent of the cookies. I observed she was uncomfortable as she cradled her cup of coffee in her hands, and the discussion abruptly ended. Though she was no longer paying attention, I didn't think it was impolite; instead, I was perplexed because something appeared strange about her. Her eyes stopped crinkling as her grin brightened her face, and then grew dull as her attention turned to the cup in front of her.I used to think about you often, you know." The change in subject prevented me from talking about relocating and rendered me absolutely immobile. Every night, I opened the sliding glass door and looked up at the moon, pleading with the Moon Goddess to protect me and watch over me."Really?" I gaped, my curious eyes wide."That is true, yes." She bowed. "I could tell something was amiss the night I met you. But then," she said, pausing and bringing her cup closer as if it were a solace. Then, when I was washing you, I became aware of the markings. When I could clearly see the handprints and fingerprints, I realized what a monster Alpha really was. She ran over when she heard the oven's timer go off. She removed the pan, covered her hand in a tea towel, and turned off the burner before placing it on top of the stove to cool. She leaned up against the counter and started talking once again. We genuinely went there to complete a business transaction. We offered him some money to assist him get back on his feet since he was in debt. A year or so before we arrived, he was supposed to repay it, but we had not seen any of it. My partner and I knew that he was going to lose everything as soon as we observed the state in which you and the pack were in. She rose and returned to her seat after doing so.The moment we woke up, you were gone, despite my best efforts to bring you back with us. She wiped away a tear that had fallen down her face with a napkin. "I attempted to locate you before we went to ask if you would come with us and I purchased you some clothing, but you were gone. So I packed up what we could and left you with it. I have felt terrible knowing you were still there, living in those types of circumstances, ever since that day. I grabbed one of her hands in both of mine as I reached across the table."I'm grateful. I wish I had the opportunity to express my gratitude for everything you have done for me. "Dear, it's not an issue. We went back there a few years ago, but because you weren't there, I assumed the worst and that you had passed away while in their custody. I immediately said, "I'm fine," attempting to comfort her as more tears came. "I'm just overjoyed that you two are dating," I said. Squeezing my hand, she. "I know he won't hurt you; he will only love you as much as he is able to love." I agreed with her words by nodding. "How do you know if you're in love with someone?" "You'll just know," She said while wearing a kindly yet astute grin. "When they stare at you or when you are near them, you'll feel all warm within. You'll start to appreciate them more, start noticing the tiny things about them, and want to be around them more. Then, everything just sort of comes at you at once. When the moment is appropriate, you'll simply know.
