Chapter 5
- Megan's POV
- I had just turned seven. After cooking supper for Alpha White, I cleared the table. He wouldn't let me refer to him as my father. I prepared him a rare steak and mashed potatoes with gravy, both of his favorites. I wanted him to be content. He didn't slap me when he was pleased, and sometimes he gave me leftover food that he didn't want.
- I returned to my attic bedroom by went upstairs. In the corner, there were a few old boxes that I was browsing through. I discovered an antique leather book with my mother's name in elegant, gold calligraphy on the cover.
- Irene White
- The diary-style book mentioned my father.
- "He is a good person. His chuckle warms my heart, and his grin makes me weak in the knees. He constantly tried to make me happy and was quite nice.
- My father took up almost the whole book, but there was nothing about her. It discussed his favorite color, as well as other topics that go on and on. It is a list of her favorites about him. I turned the page, but there was nothing there. When I flipped the page once again, it was empty. I carried on turning till I came to the back cover. I said to myself, "I want to know about Mommy." I went downstairs and saw Alpha seated on the sofa. I was forced to sit on the floor since I was not permitted to use the chairs.
- "Alpha?" He lowered his head to look at me. What was your mother like? His grey eyes, which like mine, changed to dark as I gazed. They are enraged and filled with hatred. He leaned over me and stepped up before grabbing my neck.
- "You murdered her," My back hit the wall hard when he tossed me against it, denting it. He gave me a powerful facial punch. "You stupid kid! "You murdered her!" I groaned in agony as I backed up against the wall. As I moved, my tailbone burned and sharp agony erupted up my back. My eyesight became hazy as tears streamed into my eyes. When I wept, Alpha didn't like it because he thought it made me weak. He backed away from me while twitching his fists.
- "D-Daddy?" In terror, I asked gently while stuttering.
- He swiftly turned around and firmly grabbed my upper arms. "I am not your father!" He shook me fiercely while screaming in my face. He again pushed me up against the wall while grabbing a handful of my hair. He unlocked the basement door after dragging me down the hallway. I've never been there below. I was pushed down the steps by him. My favorite hit one of the steps as I fell face-first. As I fell down the last steps, I made an effort to protect my head. My back hit the chilly floor, and I shouted in agony. I felt woozy and confused. Tears were still clouding my eyes. He kicked me in the ribs as he descended the stairs. I shouted once again after hearing a "crack." As my fractured ribs jabbed into my lungs, blood filled them. I choked up blood, finding it difficult to breathe. I writhed in pain as he kicked me again. I breathed quickly while wheezing. He shackled me to a wall with my back to him after dragging me by my hair. I exhaled in relief as I perceived that it was finished as he went away. He has only ever kicked and punched me. When he went back over, I assumed he would free me of my chains, but a loud 'crack' interrupted my joyful thoughts. I shrieked as something tore at the flesh of my back. He had been beating me. Every time I shouted, he beat me harder. I yelled nonstop, hoping that someone would hear me and rush to my aid, but all it did was tear my voice chords, making it impossible for me to continue screaming.
- "You are a bastard little child!"
- Hit.
- "I despise you!"
- Hit. Hit.
- "I want you to pass away!"
- Hit.
- "You killed your mom," I said.
- The last thing I remember hearing before my vision went completely black was the words "Clean up your blood, I don't want it staining my floors."
- I sobbed and gripped my ears. The scars were still there on my back, however, they had significantly lightened in tone compared to my skin. My heart was in my throat, and I gulped back a sob. No one should have heard me, I thought. They would inform the Alpha, who would then strike me for being a coward. I sobbed in private until the light peaked through the trees. The white snow also becomes pink and purple as it reflects the pink and purple hues of the sky.
- I had to go. I had to leave before anybody saw that I was weeping. I opened my window and descended the rain pipe drain that was located along the side of the building. I adjusted as I rushed through the dense woodland undergrowth. I ran. I ran till breathing became difficult. I ran till my throat was aching for some water and my muscles begged me to stop. I ran till I lost track. My heart was pounding with anguish and melancholy. My lip trembled as I moaned. I stopped near a lake and sat in the sunshine to drown my woes.
- I remained there till the Alpha had to return home.
- When I heard the purr of a vehicle coming from a distance of a few kilometers, I realized I had to begin traveling back. By listening to the sounds the automobile was making, you could almost hear how pricey it was. He was the fabled Alpha that everyone was talking about, so I knew it had to be him. No one would need to return to this location since there was nothing around for miles. I would know since I've been foraging and attempting to remember the area for the last week.
- I turned my head to the west, where the automobile was approaching from. The distant Talk Mountains almost seemed to be tempting me to sprint over to them. I just had to move quickly. I could get away from the Alpha's rule and the pack. There was nobody around or in the area to stop me. I could be free if I only took greater care to avoid being caught the next time.
- Not me. I could have, but I didn't. I turned around and went back the other way, east. Running would have been disrespectful to the Alpha and the pack if I had done so. If they so desired, they would go looking for me and murder me. Additionally, the beta likely had informed the Alpha that I was present.
- Just as a sleek, matte-black automobile came into the driveway, I arrived at the pack home. I put on the maroon t-shirt Blaire gave me and my tattered black pants. I threw on my leather jacket and removed my clothing, finishing the look with my leather ankle boots. I felt unworthy to be able to wear such elegant attire.
- I intended to stay away from the Alpha for as long as I could. In such cases, avoid pretty much everyone. The moment I stepped outside the front door, I was overwhelmed by the sheer number of people. I've never liked crowds; if I consider myself, I've never liked gatherings of more than three individuals. Most of them were hugging and welcoming each other as the automobile was around them. Due to the crowd, I was unable to view the Alpha. I wanted to know the man's appearance so that I could avoid him. While the females were ogling him and chatting with one another, the guys were virtually salivating over his automobile.
- That must be the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta, right? Of course, with all of his wealth, he would drive a fancy automobile.
- I have no idea about his automobile, but I would like to ride on him. The blonde I had just spoken to in the kitchen muttered to her group of pals. They all groan incessantly and shamelessly at his eyes. I disregarded their obscene remarks and went outside to the garden. There were at least 100 tables arranged in various locations across the yard.
- The seats were being perfectly straightened by hundreds of individuals as they conversed. Children were giggling gleefully while rushing between the tables and trees. I strolled around the chaos with my back to the earth and rested my chin on the broad trunk of an ancient tree.
- While I waited for him to approach me, I tried to keep myself hidden as much as I could under the shade of the tree.
- We were essentially playing a game of hide and seek. He was the one, and I was going to win.
