Chapter 29 Sucker

• Everyone is talking and making conversation at the table while I prepare breakfast. Today is like any other day, or at least, it’s going on like every day before it. Except it isn’t like every other day. Shane plagues my thoughts and I have to pretend like I’m not tracking his movements. Gabe came down a few minutes after I got started. He bitched and groaned about his splitting headache and I couldn’t hold back the giggle that bubbled up. I turn and find Shane watching me, but we’re in a room full of people, so I turn from him and ignore him.
• After the food is prepared, we put everything on the table. We went for a serve yourself breakfast, so everyone just has to grab what they want and pile it on top of their plates. I grab a plate of toast and eggs and place it on the counter. I chase Gabe out of the kitchen and he mouths a quick thank you before he heads out.
• Gabe left me his air pods before he left and I pop them into my ear. I start throwing the trash away and putting away the containers of eggs, vegetables, and meat. Then I start scrubbing the pots and pans while everyone finishes up their food. Those who showed up for breakfast thank me for the food before heading out. Some leave their dishes on the table and others bring it to the counter.
