Chapter 110

  • Serena cleared her throat and wiped a stain of food from her lips as she spoke. “I think someone has mistaken our identity,” she said, her voice tinged with anxiety. Azalea, sitting next to her, furrowed her brow, concern evident in her eyes as she turned her attention to Serena, waiting for the story to unfold.
  • Serena began to recount the harrowing incident that had occurred the night before. She explained that she had been at home, everyone else asleep, when a stranger had invaded her house. The intruder had brandished a gun, firing shots in her direction and issuing menacing threats. "I thought I wouldn't survive it," Serena confessed, her voice tremulous with residual fear. "She warned me that she would be back."
  • That ominous warning had spurred Serena to leave her home and seek refuge in a hotel. She recounted and told Azalea how the day Azalea had bumped into her, she had been on her way to the airport, intending to leave the city, seeking safety and distance from the threats that had now invaded her life.
