- Alaric walked beside me, his hand resting on the small of my back as we made our way down the winding corridors. The flickering light from the torches cast long shadows on the walls, heightening the sense that something dark was lurking just beyond our sight.
- “I’ll reach out to her first thing in the morning,” Alaric said, his voice breaking through the stillness.
- I nodded, still processing everything we had uncovered. The book, the spells, the danger we were in, me so more than everyone else. Because the spell mentioned me having to die then brought back, so I would be like a zombie, under the control of whoever wanted to control me.
