Chapter 39

• Drake’s car glided quietly down the dark streets of the city. Emily leaned her head against the window, gazing out at the passing buildings. The silence between them was comfortable, neither feeling the need to fill it with small talk. The evening had been lovely, filled with good food and laughter, but it was time to say goodbye.
• As they approached Emily’s apartment building, Drake’s hand hovered over the gear shift but didn’t make a move to put it in park just yet. Part of him wanted to hold on to this moment for just a little longer.
• “I had a great time tonight,” he said, breaking the silence.
