Chapter 39 Nurse Ann

  • I am about to go inside the room and stay with Emelia when I suddenly notice that there is someone hiding behind the wall. She seems to be peeping at me timidly. “ Who is there? Come out!” A girl in nurses’ uniform comes out. “ What is the matter? Why are you hiding there?” I yell at her. She trembles and says, “ I, I am here, here...to give you this bag of medicine for Emelia and this envelope. The envelope has all the information about the medication and when and how to use them.” Her voice is low. When facing me, she is like a coward little mouse. If Emelia is like this all the time, I do not think I will be happy. Maybe bravery is a merit, even for a slave.
  • “ Who are you?” I ask her. She lowers her head and says in a low voice, “ Mr. Stark, I am Ann. I am a nurse.” “ Since your voice is so low, I think your name should be Ant.” “Ah?” Ann is surprised. Maybe because she does not know how to react, she keeps silent. “ I remember that Grace is in charge of Emelia. Why does not Grace come here herself?” Before Ann answers me, I already know the answer. Grace is always arrogant and orders others to do things for her as if she is a real princess. “ I... I do not know. Grace asked me to come here.”
  • Her cowardness amuses me. I wink at her and smiles mischievously, “ Maybe next time, you can try disobeying her and see what will happen.” Ann seems to be surprised. Ann stares at me absent mindedly and says nothing. I soon lose the interest of making fun of her. I put on a serious face and ask,” Then why were you hiding there?” Ann bites her lips and mutters, “ I... You and Lily were talking...” “ Go straight to me next time.” I say this before I leave. I do not notice that behind me, Ann is staring at my back and there is admiration in her eyes.
