Chapter 67 Birthday

  • My birthdays were happy moments when I was a child, but when adolescence arrived, it was something I preferred to avoid at all costs. I didn't have many friends, so it was basically just being with my mom and my sister, something small, a cake, blowing out the candles and making a wish that was basically to change everything about myself, to get out of here... to be someone else. Sometimes Annie would come and give me a small gift, a book, a little detail that made the day a little better.
  • My sister usually emphasized the fact that I didn't have friends to invite, that I went out very little, that I didn't have a boyfriend, and that I wasn't going to go out dancing like she did with her friends. Have a party, for what? My mother also reminded me that I had already eaten enough during the day and that the carbohydrates would go straight to my hips and butt. In other words, I usually wanted the day to pass quickly or for them to forget about my birthday.
  • However, as I grew older, I appreciated them a little more. Lizzie and I would go out to dinner and dance. In our apartment, we almost had a party, just her and me, and Billy would join us when he was in town, and it was... fantastic. Life is truly good when you share it with people you love and who appreciate you. They made me want to celebrate my birthday.
