• Lily was aware of the people all around her, but she seemed to be in a world different from theirs. She heard them talk, she saw them pace around, she registered the apprehension on their faces, but oddly enough they felt so far away, so unreachable from her, and only when she felt a finger swipe across her cheek, flicking away the tear drops that were trickling down her face did she realize they were all together.
• “Has she been found? Has my baby been found?”
• Elle’s face squeezed up in pain, and she rubbed her hair gently. “Soon, she’ll be found soon,” she said with as much reassurance she could squeeze into her voice and words, despite her own doubts.
