Chapter 93

  • HAERA
  • "You've to help me." I pleaded to the old physician that I had called to my mate's chambers that morning. Confusion glinted in his eyes as he took in my plea but I was too troubled to think about the possible scenarios that must be going through his mind. I was also troubled... Thinking of how to save my mate's position from the evil clutches of Tybalt was another hell on its own but if I didn't do it, no one else would. I had told Alan to look after his Alpha while I found a solution to our problems. The threat of losing his position might seem like nothing to Alpha Zachary right now but what would happen after he recovers to see his brother on his throne scared the shit out of me. And his pack members? They are better off without an Alpha than to be led by a selfish man like Tybalt. "I'll do anything in my power to help you, Luna. Please tell me what I can do to help." The old physician answered confidently and I couldn't help but wonder if his words would carry the same confidence after I told him what I needed him to help me with. "I need you to help me bring back Alpha Zachary's memories. I need you to heal him before the whole pack falls apart." My words stunned the old physician as I expected. It was crazy to ask him to carry out such a demanding task but I had no one else to turn to. "Luna, I wish I can relieve the burden your young shoulders carry but this is beyond my control. I'm afraid I can't help-" "There must be something you can do...anything." I stopped the physician from shattering the little hope I had managed to build in myself but he averted his eyes from my pleading ones. There has to be something I could do to juggle his memories. There has to be... "Even the herbs and concoctions that I had been brewing for him haven't been having any effects on his recovery. Alpha is proving to be a difficult patient." The physician murmured sadly, shattering my hope further. If there was nothing he could think of, I needed to find other means to help my mate regain his memories. But how? I told the old physician that he could take his leave since he couldn't provide the answers I needed. He bowed to me before turning his back to me but I could barely concentrate on his retreating figure. My mind was running through different options. Should I make use of dark magic? What would be the repercussion of such action? "But Luna, I think this should help and if it doesn't, we would know that we tried our be-" "Tell me what it is." I cut the old physician's words short, standing erect from my seat as he walked back to me. I tried to stop hope from blossoming in my mind but it did as my heart raced expectantly. The physician was hesitant but I pushed him to tell me whatever it was that could help Alpha Zachary become himself again. "I was thinking we could try reminding him about who he was by creating a similar scene of his best memories." The physician announced but I was unable to understand what he was trying to tell me. He must have sensed the dilemma because he began to explain further. "What I'm saying is that you should create some of your precious memories with him again. Like times when you guys laughed together or did unforgettable things together. By doing this Alpha Zachary would get to see and feel the same emotions he felt when those things happened. This might help him to recollect his lost memories." "But I don't have any fun memories with him. Have you forgotten that I was once a maid in this pack? He rarely noticed my presence except those times that he punished me or yelled in my face.' I said to the physician and he looked defeated. It was the truth though. I couldn't think of any fun memories that were worth remembering. Zachary and I had been through several huddles ever since the first day I sensed him to be my mate. I couldn't tell if I was the one that brought chaos to my mate's life or if he was also as unlucky as I was fated to be. 'That's all I could think of, Luna. I'm sorry." The old physician said before leaving me to be swallowed up by my thoughts. What am I meant to do now? "You can try to recreate one of your memories together despite the emotion behind it. Bad memories can be very strong too. Strong enough to affect someone's mind." Dezra recommended but I still didn't know which of our bitter memories would be strong enough to trigger Alpha Zachary lost memories. I didn't have much time to think because I knew "my son" would soon be back from his supposed play date with Alan. I also needed to think and act fast before the council would find a way to contact Tybalt. Pacing around the space inside the chambers wasn't helping either. I thought of giving up but I knew it wasn't an option. I'll rather be an ugly maid than the- An ugly maid! It was what I needed to make up my mind on which memory to use and I wasted no time jubilating when the idea popped into my head. Jubilation might have to wait until after I get a positive result. "Summon the head maid for me with immediate effect and make sure she follows you as soon as you deliver my message to her." I voiced to one of the guards guarding the doors and he left in a hurry. Dina might be impractical in some aspects but she would be able to help in this situation. I also called for Opaline and I waited impatiently for both of their arrivals. Opaline arrived before Dina and I quickly attacked her with questions. "Do you remember what The Moon Stone pack maid uniform looks like? Do you think I can get it in thirty minutes? Or how long will it take?" "Calm down, Princess Haera-" "The head maid has arrived." The guard announced from outside the chambers, cutting Opaline's sentence short. Dina walked in after I gave the guard permission to let her in. Her fear could be perceived by anyone with a nose. "Y-you Called for me, Luna." Dina stuttered which I completely ignored because of the task at hand. Her newfound fear for me wasn't what I was worried about. It was what would happen after I get my big idea in motion and how I would succeed before Alpha Zachary's arrival. "The chambers in the tower where the Alpha Zachary stayed when he was still an Alpha prince must have been emptied after he took the throne right?" I questioned Dina, forgetting about the questions I asked Opaline earlier. I needed to calm down if I was to achieve anything at all. "Yes, Luna." Dina responded. "I need you to clean up the room and decorate it the same way it was decorated when the duel between both Alpha Princes occurred. Note my words, Dina. The exact way." I ordered, expecting Dina to acknowledge my words and leave immediately but she remained on the same spot still not meeting my eyes. "What are you waiting for?" This time, my voice was harsh because I was frustrated with myself. "L-luna. It will be difficult to get the exact setting without missing a detail or two. I don't even remember what the decorations looked like." Dina complained. "I don't care about the miracle you'll have to perform but you have to do as I said and finish within thirty minutes which had started counting since I gave you the order." I responded and she left without any more complaints. It was a difficult job, alright but she has to get it right for my plan to be a success. "What do you need all this for, Princess Haera." Opaline asked thoughtfully and I told her everything. "He has to remember something soon, Opa. I might break down without him." I added after explaining the details of my plan to her. "How do you intend to get the maid uniform? The imperial pack has a different one compared to the one you seek." My trusted hand-serving maid pointed out. "That's where you come in." I said to Opaline before adding my intention. "I was thinking one of my dresses can be transformed into it. What do you think?" "You don't have to ruin your expensive dresses just to sew a maid's dress. I'd try to get the materials and make something similar for you." Opaline said and I had to ask if she could manage that within thirty minutes. Opaline promised to be back soon and I trusted her to deliver what I asked for. She left and I was once again left to my thoughts "I hope she won't forget to add the sash. It's The most important part of the uniform and we definitely need it." My wolf said. This was one of the times I wished I could mindlink members of the imperial pack but I just had to trust Opaline to do well in making the uniform. I'd even considered asking someone to find the one Gennora used to wear when she was here but wearing that would make me a crazy princess. "Is anyone there?" I called for one of the guards and the same one that attended to me earlier entered the room. "I need you to find Beta Alan or mindlink him. Tell him to not return with the Alpha until I ask him to." I ordered yet again and he left the room afterward. Waiting was the only thing I could do for the next thirty minutes but I put effort into changing my look. I styled my hair the same way I used to do when I was a maid and I cleaned the powder on my face. Even though the mask wouldn't allow Alpha Zachary to see my face, I needed to look as plain and ugly as I used to look back then. Yes, I planned to recreate the day I first went into his room even though things didn't go well after that day but it was worth a try just like the physician had said. "You can do it, Haera." Dezra encouraged me as I stared at my face in the mirror. Dina arrived exactly thirty minutes after she left, covered in dust and some tiny cobwebs. She informed me that she had tried her best to get the result I requested for which was what mattered. I just wish she did well "Thank you, Dina." I said to her and she didn't hide her shocked expression but before she could act on it, I dismissed her. I called the guard into the room again and instructed him to tell Alan to take my mate to his former room. Opaline was running late and I was getting worried she might never make it in time. She did make it although she came ten minutes later than planned, I was astonished by how well she made the uniform I requested for. "I'm so sorry I'm late." She apologized while I rushed to wear the uniform. Although it wasn't my size, it should get the job done and thankfully, Opaline didn't forget the sash. "Thank you, Opaline." I appreciated her efforts. Opaline offered to help me into the uniform but I declined, dismissing her too. It was better if I took care of things myself from that point. I made my way to the tower quickly and with excitement and fear mixing up perfectly within me. I was so close to the room when I heard Alpha Zachary asking Alan why he was stopping him from going to his mum- me. "I don't want to play with you anymore and this place is hideous and scary. Take me to my Mum, please." My mate lamented to his Beta whom he had considered his friend in these past few days. Alan tried to calm his Alpha despite his growing frustration which I was about to save him from. I put the sash over my face using it as a mask just like I did the first night I came to serve him food in this room. I had carried an empty tray from his chambers before coming here so nothing was stopping me from helping my mate. "Wait here. I have a surprise for you." Alan said to my mate who began to protest immediately. Alan must have sensed my presence so he was trying to excuse himself from the scene. Alan found his way around his Alpha after promising him several treats that I didn't understand. I walked towards the room after Alan left, preparing myself for what I hoped would be a good result. Alpha Zachary was scanning the room when I entered and surprisingly he was doing it from the same position he was sitting the day we met here. I must give credit to Dina...she did well. Upon sensing my presence, my mate turned slowly to face me. He looked at me for a while before staggering away from me and I couldn't take in his facial expression. Alpha Zachary held his head as he wobbled on his feet like he was about to collapse. "W-what's happening?" He inquired and I leaped with joy when I sensed recognition in his aura. "I know you...and I know this...this place." It was working!
