Chapter 92

  • HAERA
  • "I beg your pardon?" My voice came out smaller than it should have if you consider the way I was screaming in my head and how it was banging like my brain was looking for a way out. The patience I exhibited and the way I was able to handle the situation in between the noise in my head scared even me. Those words should have come out louder, they could have emanated from a scream but how I managed to keep it cool really really had me scared for my own self. I had to have heard wrong. It had to be me overthinking the various things that could happen if my mate didn't get to his senses as soon as possible. It had to be my imagination running wild and definitely not what I thought I heard from Jared, the spokesperson of the wise men of the werewolf council. Because why else would I hear them mention the name that's meant to be an abomination on the lips and tongue of every single member of this pack and beyond considering how the entire woodland knew of the two different attacks on Alpha Zachary. Tybalt has long disappeared, according to Alan and a few other reports and he has been nowhere to be found ever since that attack. The men searched all over for him but they weren't successful at finding him and I had thought he was at least gone from our sight while I helped my mate recuperate. But even without his being around, it feels like he's absence haunted me and my mate. That's not much of a concern to me right now. It's how the committee was able to maintain a straight face after what they just said. It's how their posture was still unshaken and they were unmoved by their own words. "So help me God, if these old hags don't correct themselves or at least lie or something,I won't hesitate to tear them to pieces." Dezra growled inside of me, obviously understanding the situation too and finding it hard to believe those words could even leave their lips. "Princess Haera, I am certain you heard me loud and clear but I won't take that to heart and shall repeat what I said. Since you claim to be unmarked and not ready to be crowned Luna without your mate who is currently incapacitated, we have no choice but to dethrone him as Alpha and then crown his-" I couldn't allow him repeat the rest of his words for fear that I would lash out at him. "His brother? Are you kidding me?" Jared relaxed in his seat, eyes glinting with mischief. "So you heard." He said with amusement. I held back a scoff and a snort altogether. "Of course I did! I just couldn't believe what I heard and couldn't wrap my head around the fact that you just said you would have Alpha Zachary dethroned only to crown his brother." I said. "You heard correctly Princess Haera and we didn't make mistakes when we mentioned his name. The throne remains empty and you remain adamant. Do you think the people of the pack have the patience you exhibited in taking care of your mate?" First, I was glad they all acknowledged my efforts for taking care of Zachary but that didn't change how I feel about them and the words they were spewing. Dezra was only a moment away from tearing them apart. And I was this close to losing it as well. "The pack is meant to be loyal to their Alpha! And of all people, of all wolves, why does it have to be him? After everything he has done to hurt the Alpha, all he's going to get is a pat on his back and a ceremonial welcome? Did anyone of you forget that he is the one responsible for the situation the Alpha is currently in?" Jared seemed offended by my choice of words but I just couldn't tone it down because of how angry I was that they even had the guts to think of Tybalt after everything he has done. "Listen to me princess Haera and choose your words carefully. No one here is disloyal to the Alpha and we have all stood by him through his trying times. And no one here is oblivious to the reason for his current situation but as the oldest and wisest of all the wolves in this pack, we have to do our job. That's what this is all about and a few bad things by a wolf can't stop us from moving this pack forward." I stood to my feet because I just couldn't take it anymore. I was literally burning with anger and frustration. It was like these men and women were handing out their community to an animal on a platter of Gold all because my mate wasn't in the right frame of mind. How could they ignore the attacks? How could they overlook it and think of bringing him back here? How could they even think of it? Did none of them think of the possibility of such a man with Ill Intentions ruining the pack and sending it to the gallows? "Sit down Princess Haera, we are not done talking and you will not stand above us." Jared said with a frown but I didn't care. I had to put my feet down and stop them from going through with their madness. "No, I will not sit down and I will not allow this pack to be tainted by such a vile man as Tybalt. He deserves death and nothing more." I retorted. Jared stood up as well with hard eyes that didn't even scare me one bit. I was past caring about the consequences of my actions. "Your arrogance will get you nowhere princess Haera. If anything, it has given me the impression that you could have never made a good Luna anyway! And now, the notion of considering you to be the Luna while your mate comes by has been cancelled! We shall find Tybalt and he shall be crowned. ." My eyes widened. They were really going through with it? "This meeting is over!" Jared announced. The men and women in the room grumbled their approval and began to rise from their seats. The noise of them starting to leave claimed the room while I stood there in shock and not knowing what to do. "You have to do something Haera. They can't go through with this. They can't!" Dezra's desperation was what snapped me out of whatever trance I was in. "Wait!" I yelled out just as the first person stepped out of the room. Jared raised his grey brow at me, waiting for me to say something. "Give me time." I pleaded even if it hurt my pride so much. Jared's face only held more confusion at my words. I bit my lip. "Give me time to set mate straight. If it doesn't work out by the stipulated time, you can go ahead to crown his brother." I almost choked on the last words but it came out anyway. This is what I've been reduced to. Begging and pleading. There was just no way in hell I was going to allow Tybalt to sit on that throne. Now way. Anyone but him. Just anyone at all. Jared turned to the rest of the werewolf council. I could sense the silent discussion between them through their mindlink as they were probably considering my request. It took just minutes but it felt like long hours. Soon they were done and Jared turned back to look at me with a satisfied look gracing his features. "Fine then...the council shall hold off summoning the Alpha prince." I breathed in relief. "But..." Jared trailed off "only for a few days." I didn't say anything and just let him speak. "Five blue moons, if nothing changes with your mate the Alpha in five blue moons, we shall have no choice but to bring in his brother. Do you have any objections, Princess Haera?" Jared asked me. I hesitated for a second. Not like my objection would matter anymore. I shook my head and Jared nodded in return. "Then, good day Princess Haera." Jared said and turned away, following the rest of the council as they trudged out of the throne room. Five blue moons. I was given a period of five blue moons to get my mate back to normal or a vile wolf will have control of the pack and I definitely couldn't let that happen. I will help Alpha Zachary regain his memory at all costs, even if it's the last thing I do.
