• I open the phone and go through the dialed numbers. I see mines several times. But there’s also another number. No incoming. Only outgoing, but from the looks of the time. The other number they dialed didn’t answer either.
• I don’t recognize the number. “Grant can you find out whose number that belongs to.” I ask as I hand over the phone to him. He sees my number in the outgoing calls but doesn’t say anything. He knows I hate unknown numbers. But I also know well enough he won’t say anything because I’m already beating myself up about it. Knowing I could have gotten to her sooner. Before.
