Chapter 38 Get To Know Each Other

• The words echoed in my ears, and I felt my adrenaline spike. I didn’t want to bump into Roy at the cocktail party, but I found myself gathering my things so I could leave the office anyway.
• “Nancy, do you think I could borrow one of your dresses this evening?” I asked on the phone as I settled into the backseat of the taxi. “My company’s throwing a cocktail party tonight, and it’s so last minute that I couldn’t get an outfit in time; you know how I don’t usually go to these things, let alone have the appropriate wardrobe at my disposal.”
• There was no hesitation on Nancy’s part as she replied, “Of course you could borrow one of my dresses. You have the keys to my house after all. I have dozens of dresses in the closet, so you can pick whichever you like best. By the way, you should probably take my car for the next week or so, seeing as I’d be out of town and it would be idle in the garage otherwise; the keys are on the vanity.”
