• I pulled Nancy’s hand away and buried my head on her shoulder, while she looked around to stave off the embarrassment. Then Nancy suddenly said, “Hey, Shelly, are you sure you’ll be safe at home? What if someone breaks in again?”
• Joseph answered, “Don’t worry about it, Miss Watson. Shelly is safe now, since Lena wouldn’t do anything to her now that she thinks she will win the case. Even if she wants to hurt Shelly, her lawyer would tell her to keep it down. After all, if Shelly is hurt, she’ll be in deep trouble too.”
• I continued, “And the Spencers wouldn’t do anything to me either. Now that Roy and I are divorced, they have no reason to attack me, not to mention they’re in trouble too.”
