Chapter 23 I’ll Be Gentle, Darling

• Roy responded in an icy tone. “Tell her to leave. I don’t want to see her.” The maid nodded and turned around, but Ellie had made her own decision to let herself into the room at that point. “Let me come in, Roy… I… I’d like to speak to her,” she muttered in a careful voice.
• I felt a pang of guilt whenever I saw Ellie. There was a lingering sense of uneasiness within me whenever I thought of how I had snatched her man and ruined her relationship.
• Eventually, Roy knitted his brows and gave the maid a look, telling her to leave. The maid thoughtfully shut the door behind her. Ellie took a few steps closer toward us, and her eyes began to tear up as she looked at me. “I’m so sorry. I’m so, so sorry. I had no idea that my brother would do such a horrible thing. I’m here to apologize to you today, Miss Sutton.”
