• Roy reached a hand over to stroke Austin’s cheek. “Good morning,” he uttered. Austin grinned to reveal his baby teeth as he spoke. “Thank you for saving Mommy and me yesterday, Mr. Riven. I was too sleepy last night, so I fell asleep before thanking you.”
• “It’s no problem at all.” Roy pulled out a few pieces of exquisite-looking candies before placing them into Austin’s hands. “You can have these. I’ll probably be heading home today, but I’ll see you again someday, okay?”
• A rather disappointed look formed on Austin’s face as he kept the candies away. “Are you going home today, Mr. Riven? Mommy is going home today too; she’s heading back to her own house in Woodland.” I felt rather self-conscious the moment Roy shifted his gaze to look at me. “We should leave now, Austin.
