Chapter 30 Getting Out Alive
- Woodland City wasn’t too far away from Elmsbury, but the three-or-four-hour car ride for us to get there still felt like a century to me and I couldn’t help the uneasiness that seized me. I was quiet along the way and I wondered why I was so nervous. Why was I so worried that Roy might be punished by his grandfather? Could my concern for the man’s safety mean something more?
- Not having the courage to dwell on that last question anymore, I snapped out of my reverie. I had only known Roy for a short amount of time and the webs that entangled us were spun out of threats, leverages, danger and schemes. And yet, I still couldn’t quite pinpoint the source of my worries.
- As we traversed toward our destination, I tried calling Roy twice, but none of my calls went through since he had switched off his phone.
