Chapter 21

• As Winona lay there, in the midst of the crowd, she patiently awaited the impending verdict from Brent. She consciously blocked out all the surrounding noise, not wanting to hear any of it. She desired to meet her end while listening to her inner voice, her own thoughts.
• Her gaze fell upon her mother. Divina shot her a glare so intense, it was as if she could kill her on the spot. Winona found herself questioning why her mother harbored such deep-seated hatred for her. What had she done to warrant such loathing?
• "Mother...." she whispered in a soft, almost inaudible voice.
