• Up in the loft and in the corners where the shadows were, the children of The Keeper listened to the conversation that humans Rodger and Zoe were having. Remi wiped away a tear rolling down her cheek; she knew things were rough for the human Zoe, but she did not think her life experience was this traumatic. Delilah glared at the human Zoe with a hardened expression. Clenching her hands around the railings that prevented anyone from falling off the loft.
• In a harsh tone, Delilah asked, “Why do humans treat each other so poorly?” She realized that humans were not only destructive to the land but also to everything that roamed freely. This frustration consumed her.
