Chapter 10

~ July 31st - 10:00 AM ~
Rodger was staring at his phone screen, his fingers dancing across it as he texted Sophia. He informed her that they had finished grocery shopping and filled the car with gas and that they were getting ready to leave the city. Glancing up from his phone, Rodger noticed Zoe approaching the intersection that would lead to the highway, making the turnoff at a steady 30 kilometres per hour. His excitement was building; the journey ahead made his heart race. 'This is going to be so much fun!' he thought with a smile as he glanced out of the window at the field of wheat.
Zoe's eyes were locked on the road ahead. Breathing slowly, Zoe steadied the emotions that were swirling around in her head. 'Just do it, Zo!' she mentally encouraged herself. She was a competent driver, but she did not trust the skills of the other drivers on the highway. 'Bha! This isn't any different than rush hour!' she pointed out the obvious to herself. Checking all of her mirrors! Making sure she had a clear path as she navigated onto the highway, leaving the city's sign in her rearview mirror.
