Chapter 40 Game On

  • When Sia woke up the following morning, she quickly prepared for work as she has already been absent for some days.
  • “The good thing about being a boss of a nine-to-five job is you get to decide your time.” She muttered under her breath and swung her feet to the floor.
  • She swiftly brushed and showered before heading downstairs to grab some food.
  • She donned her white robe when she crept out of the bathroom, and her damp hair dripped water on her temple.
  • While scrambling down the stairs, Sia heard Michelle singing loudly so that those outside could hear her voice.
  • “Ms. Michelle, were you in a choir before?” Sia heard one of the servants questioning. Then Michelle gave her a curt response.
  • “During my teenage years. Oh, that was when my talent was on full display. Why did you ask?”
  • “Because today is practically my first time seeing you singing so loudly. It makes me wonder if you won a lottery.” The servant replied, giggling. “Plus your voice is very…horrible.” She added and the other servants burst into a fit of giggles.
  • “What!? That was blunt Kat! Don’t make me dock your monthly allowance!” Michelle threatened.
  • Laughing the servant asked, “Hell no, Ms. Michelle. Are you the one paying us?”
  • “I can convince Mrs. Monson to do so. Trust me, you won’t like it all.”
  • Sia heard the servant apologize in mock annoyance.
  • “Oh, Ms. Michelle, I implore you to forgive thy lowly servant. You literally have the best voice in the world!”
  • Other servants laughed out.
  • “To earn my forgiveness you have to mow the lawn now!” Sia heard the authority that spiced Michelle's words.
  • She stood on the base of the stairs and looked on to see what will happen next. Then she heard Michelle calling out to the servant mowing the lawn and in one swift motion the servant crept inside the house.
  • “You hand everything over to Kat. She’ll mow the lawns today!” Michelle declared.
  • Though she was acting mean, but you can see the faint smile on the corner of her mouth. Relieved, the servant handed everything she was with to servant Kat who stirred Michelle’s wrath.
  • In the Monson villa, Michelle is in charge of assigning each servant their place of work. Some base in working in the kitchen, living room, and bedroom. But Kat is the servant in charge of handling Sia’s room which she deemed the best place to handle in the villa.
  • Furthermore, being assigned to mow the lawn annoyed Kat, but she knows better than to disobey Michelle’s orders.
  • The servant took the equipment and plodded outside to carry out the work.
  • Seeing that made Sia smirk. She trailed into the kitchen surprising both Michelle and the other servants.
  • “That was quite harsh!” She smirked, making Michelle laugh.
  • “She insulted my beautiful voice. Can you imagine her guts, Mrs. Monson!” Smiling, Michelle hissed.
  • Sia crept to the rack and picked up her favorite mug. She fluttered the fridge open and pulled out the milk.
  • Sia drizzled the amount she wanted inside her mug and began swigging it.
  • “She has quite some guts! I think she deserves the punishment ladled out on her.” Sia joshed making other servants laugh.
  • “You should have ordered for that, Sia. Instead of coming downstairs to get it yourself.” Michelle said pointing at the mug of milk Sia held.
  • “I have legs Michelle and they carried me here without hassle. So there’s no need.”
  • Michelle served Sia’s breakfast and she nibbled on it before heading back to her room to prepare for work.
  • When Sia was done she wriggled to the garage and piled up inside the car. Shortly after, they peeled away from the Monson villa to the company.
  • When they arrived at the company she saw a few reporters cluster around and Rebekah was addressing them on God knows what. Liam on the other hand stood behind Rebekah nodding his head at her words.
  • Sia informed the driver not to park in the garage. Following the instructions, the driver drove the car a few meters away from the company before Sia alighted.
  • She doesn’t know why the reporters are there but she wouldn’t like to risk being exposed as the widow yet.
  • Picking up her bag, Sia slung it in her right arm and swayed down to the company. She cleverly etched through the crowd and squeezed inside the company.
  • She entered the employees' elevator from whence she arrived at the CEO's floor.
  • When Sia emerged from her office, she looked through the window and saw the reporters still standing outside the company.
  • Unsure of what transpiring, Sia switched on her flat-screen TV to see if this is a live event. Fortunately, the show was displayed on the TV.
  • Headline: Waiting for the official debutante of the widow as the new ruler of the Monson family.
  • “Debutante? Oh shit!” Sia cursed. “I’m so not ready for the debutante yet. I need more time to get my plans carried out.” She mumbled, pacing back and forth in the office.
  • A knock jerked her from her musings and Sia paused and journeyed her eyes to the door.
  • “Come in.” She sputtered, eyes fixed on the door.
  • Swiveling the doorknob, Liam slide into the office.
  • “Good morning ma’am.” His brass voice boomed in the room.
  • Sighs. Sia trudged to her seat and flopped on it.
  • “What’s going on downstairs?” She asked, bashing her eyes at Liam who already glued his eyes on her.
  • “They’re… inquiring about your debutante. But we told them the widow hasn’t even been in the company yet.” Liam spouted, biting his lower lip.
  • “Really? You both did a great job in convincing them.” Sia said with a click of her tongue. “I’m not ready yet for the debutante. A few things need to be dealt with.”
  • “Uh…ma’am about the shares you…” Liam began but Sia speedily interrupted him.
  • “Yeah…right. I just forgot to ask you about it. How was it? Were you able to get it?” She questioned, drumming her fingers on the desk.
  • Liam jerked his head in a nod, huffing.
  • “I went through the shareholders after my research on who their shareholders are. I got a few people to sell their shares to me.” He said, heart, thrumming rapidly in his chest.
  • “That’s awesome! You did a very fantabulous job, Liam!” Sia simpered, satisfied by his job.
  • “Well, there is something else ma’am.” Liam gagged, afraid to spew the next words.
  • “And what is it?” She narrowed her eyes up at him.
  • “I noticed they are already having some financial problems and I sent a message on their social media account.” He hesitated.
  • ‘Will she take this lightly?’ He thought.
  • “What message did you send Liam?” She inquired, voice cold.
  • “Your days are numbered, Mr. CEO. I also shared it with some bloggers who rumored that the Evangelista group might fold at any time.”
  • ‘That far exceeded the job you were told to do, Liam!’ He cursed himself.
  • Startled, Sia puffed a long breath, “you did that?”
  • Nodding, Liam gushed. “I know it far exceeded your plans, ma'am. I'll clear everything up.” He pleaded.
  • Sia’s mind began roving in thought. She knows she had heard something about a company that might potentially fold consequent to the financial crisis they’re facing.
  • After deep thinking, Sia remembered some women were discussing that when she was in the grocery store.
  • Unknowingly, her face creased in a smile, making Liam stunned.
  • ‘He sure will be restless. That’s how he’ll be for God knows how long. I want him to feel every bit of pain he caused me.’ She whispered under her breath.
  • Looking up at Liam she uttered, “Liam you went too far. What you did was never part of my plan.” She pursed her lips, staring at Liam who hung down his head.
  • He doesn’t know why he did it. But he felt that urge to help Sia.
  • ‘I can’t help it. These feelings gnawing inside me aren’t helping at all. I shouldn’t have done that!’ He cussed himself, licking his lips.
  • “In some other cases, I’d have sacked you because you didn’t conform with my orders. But no…” She paused and simpered.
  • Hearing that Liam hoisted his head and locked eyes with Sia, surprised.
  • “I love that you did it. He deserves to be punished for his crime. So yes Liam. I love how you handled this job. Keep up with it.” Sia commented.
  • At that moment, Liam heaved a long sigh and giggled.
  • “Thank you, ma’am. I promise it won’t happen this way again.” He said in glee.
  • “You’ll get a raise, Liam,” Sia said. “You can leave now.”
  • Enraptured by Sia’s words, Liam bowed his head and exited the office.
  • When the office door clipped close, Sia reclined her back on the seat, swiveling it around.
  • “You said it’s over Lucas Evangelista but I say this is the beginning of a new game!” She burst into laughter.
