Chapter 2 Heartbreak

  • ‘Over?’ Sia asked herself, inwardly.
  • She just can’t wrap her head around what Lucas means by ‘it’s over.’
  • Sia lifted her head again, looking into his handsome face.
  • Lucas is handsome that he was able to trap her with his looks the first time they met in the coffee shop where she once worked.
  • His small red lips is what she likes the most. Whenever he kisses her, she finds herself in a trance.
  • In a web of love she knitted specially for them both.
  • His eyes brightens her up whenever she’s in a bad mood. His deep coffee brown eyes.
  • His voice? It sends soft shivers of joy down her spine whenever he talks to her. It’s so deep and melodious, she can’t help but fawn over it.
  • His big hands cakes her body with goosebumps whenever he touches her.
  • His height? It’s a tower. He shields her with his height that she feels so safe in the cocoon of his arms.
  • Everything about him is irresistible. He's what you could call a sculpture of perfection.
  • Sia never thought they would date for over a year considering the fact they hail from different world.
  • “What…do you mean by it’s over?” her voice muffled. “what do you mean by it was a game?” she added.
  • Lucas stood erect, hands on his sweat pocket. “You heard me right, Sia. It was all a game.” He reiterated.
  • Sia shook her head. It’s like she’s hearing a different thing all the together.
  • Wasn’t it last night that he openly confessed his love for her?
  • He openly told her he loves her with every fiber of his being, so what’s with the ‘it was all a game thing?’ she asked herself.
  • “Lucas please quit this play. I want to tell you something important…”
  • “I’m fucking serious Sia Macallista!” His slightly high-pitched voice made her flinch.
  • Sia's heart sank to her stomach. Her hands were beginning to tremble ‘Beginning to tremble’ because she’s yet to hear the full story.
  • “How? Why?” she asked. She can’t hold the tears again, hence she let it course down her acne brimmed face.
  • “Because I made a bet with my friends to date you. We made a bet, Sia. Hope you understand now?” he said so freely without any obstruction.
  • No pause.
  • No considering of her feelings!
  • Could Lucas be this heartless?
  • Could he play her to such an extent?
  • Of all days… of all time, why did it have to be now she needed him the most?
  • Now, she needs someone that will console her!
  • Now, she’s just not herself and needs someone to assure her that things will eventually pan out well?
  • Now, she needs him to help her find the one responsible for her mothers death!
  • His words are like blade knifing her heart. Sia slumped in a new world of sorrow.
  • A world of betrayal.
  • A world of disbelief.
  • So love could hurt her like this someday?
  • She should have known better when people say they don’t believe true love exist!
  • ‘Lucas used me for a bet!?’ she mused, inwardly.
  • “No, this can’t be. It can’t. At all.” She squeaked.
  • In the heat of the moment, she loaded herself in his arms, tugging his collar.
  • “I know you love me, Lucas. I know you love me. I can see it
  • in your eyes it’s evident. You told you love me. So much than I know.”
  • “You told me you'd do anything for me, right? You said it.
  • Months ago you told me how you’re willing to fight for me. For us . You assured me that being from different worlds can’t put us apart. Yes, baby you said it.” She said, kissing his cheeks, his brows, his eyes , his ears, his lips.
  • Sia’s tears painted every part of his face. Lucas tried to pull her out. He tried to stop her but Sia is determined. She kept her hold on him as strong as ever.
  • She doesn’t want to relent because he’s her man and she needs him by her side now. She needs him so much.
  • “Sia stop. Stop acting so childish, you hear me?” he routed, trying to push her off of him but she held him strong.
  • Crying.
  • Weeping.
  • “You’re the one acting childish, Lucas!” She hissed, in a high-pitched voice, making Lucas to stop pushing her away from him.
  • ‘Yes, maybe I am. But it’s for the best.’ Lucas whispered inwardly, locking his eyes with hers.
  • “What do you mean, Sia?” he asked.
  • “you’re acting childish Lucas! How could you open your mouth and admit to me you wagered with your friends about me? How could you play with my feelings knowing you never loved me?”
  • “I don’t know, Sia. All you should know is that, it’s over and it was a game.” He croaked.
  • “No…no…no baby, we love each other. We love each other. I know you love me. You promised me you’ll make me the happiest woman in the whole world right? You promised me.” She pleaded, tears welling her eyes.
  • “That was all a lie.” He worded, voice deep.
  • “No, it can’t be. What about the promise ring you gave me?” she wriggled the ring in her ring finger that’s embellished with their names. She waved the ring in front of him and asked.
  • Lucas stiffened at the sight of the ring.
  • Heck! That ring wants to bring back old memories but he can’t allow it. Therefore, he maintained his cold demeanor.
  • “That’s a lie too.” He said.
  • Sia shook her head, unsure of what to say next.
  • Meanwhile, as this was going on Danika pranced out. This time she was in what seemed like a bikini but covered her hips with something that looked like a shawl.
  • “Hey, hun!” Danika called out to Lucas as she snaked her arms around his waist from his backside. Lucas jerked, slightly.
  • “What’s going on?” Danika asked when she saw how Lucas and Sia stood transfixed.
  • The corner of Danika’s lips raised in sheer mockery.
  • “I thought your security men have thrown her away? What’s she still doing here? And who is she?” Asked Danika as she locked eyes with Sia.
  • “Nothing, she’s just about to go.” Lucas wheezed in lieu of a response about who Sia is to him.
  • However, Sia sniffled, she looked into his eyes now, demanding for the last answer.
  • “Tell me you don’t love me.” She drawled. She’s too weak now to talk. She gasped for air, looking him in the eye. “look me in the eye Lucas and tell me it’s over and it was a game!” she demanded.
  • Lucas stiffened hearing these words from her. He looked her in the eyes and all he could see is their past.
  • Their moments together as lovers.
  • The nights they shared.
  • His confession of love for her.
  • His willingness to fight, love and protect her.
  • He could see it. It’s all swirling in her eyes
  • He almost fidgeted. Almost refrained himself from doing this any further but he has to for his own good.
  • Then, he flapped his eyes open again and locked it with hers.
  • Slowly, he lifted his lips and spat, “it’s over, Sia. It’s all game.”
  • These words sounded in Sia’s ears. Her world crashed down this minute as her heart slumped to her stomach.
  • With misty eyes, she looked him back in the eyes and nodded.
  • “I’ll make sure you regret ever playing with my feelings. Lucas Evangelista, you’ll regret ever doing this to me. “ she threatened.
  • But how will she make someone like Lucas pay?
  • ‘Oh Sia, you can’t do a thing because he’s rich you’re poor.
  • Look at the woman he has in his arms. She’s a beauty and you are all covered in blotches.’ Her conscience told her.
  • Sia relented, and decided to accept the truth. To live with the truth.
  • She can’t do anything to him, at all.
  • Just then, Sia threw the promise ring at him, wheezing for air as the lump in her throat made it hard for her to breathe.
  • The tears in her eyes made it hard for her to see clearly.
  • Everything is a blur.
  • “Security!!” Danika called. Up on hearing Danika’s voice,
  • Mike and the rest appeared. “Throw her out!” said Danika.
  • The men rushed to push Sia out but she warned them not to touch her.
  • “I’ll leave on my own. Don’t touch me.” She mouthed in between tears.
  • She didn’t look back and Lucas couldn’t tear his eyes off of her retreating figure. He looked down at the promise ring on his foot.
  • Slowly, he bent down and picked the ring, swirling it in his fingertips.
  • “Let’s go back in inside, hun.” Danika purred, dragging him inside.
  • Lucas held back the tears that wanted to drip from his eyes and sheepishly walked inside as Danika dragged him.
  • “Who is she to you? Was she your girlfriend? I thought mummy Hera said you’ve broken up? I thought your uncle said so too?” Danika pressed with her question.
  • “Look Lucas I quit my boyfriend because of you and we’re supposed to know each and love each other. So tell me. Do you still love her?” Danika asked, worried.
  • It’s obvious she feels something for Lucas.
  • Lucas pinched the bridge of his nose and spat, “she’s no one Danika. I don’t love her.”
  • “Great. It’s just you and I. Soon, we’ll get married. Glad she’s out of your life.” She smirked, tracing her hand up and down Lucas’s back.
