Chapter 38 Intervention
- “You’ve got to be kidding me!” Danika squeaked, surprised.
- “I’m not joking, Danika. It’s the latest news!” Isabel shouted.
- A smile cracked on Danika’s lips.
- “Let me see!” She said and snatched Isabel’s phone.
- Danika’s eyes scan the screen of Isabel’s phone, drinking in all the stories written by bloggers about the issues the Evangelista’s group is experiencing and the streaks of comments the netizens are dropping regarding the case.
- Danika stared at the screen a second longer before shrieks of laughter bounced off her lips and that made Isabel shell-shocked.
- ‘Why is she laughing? It’s not some joke but Danika is literally laughing?’ Isabel wondered.
- “Wonderful!”
- Danika’s exclamation snapped Isabel out of her dazed state. She hoisted her head and held Danika’s gaze.
- “I think this is such great news, Isabel!” Danika spouted, letting out a gale of laughter. Her face turned a shade of red, consequent to the shrieks of laughter escaping her lips.
- “Why are you laughing, Danika? It’s not something comical. You should be worried for your fiancé.” Isabel articulated, staring at Danika with wide eyes.
- Danika flipped around facing Isabel with her cocky smile. With an eye roll, she stated, “Yes, I’m laughing because it’s funny. Lucas believes he can stand on his feet without my support and this literally proves he’s nothing without me. He’s an empty vessel without any support from my mother and me. So it all makes me happy he's beginning to see the truth in my words and how valuable I am to him.”
- Danika began gravitating around the office, grinning. “If he wants to make record-breaking success in the business world, he can only rely on me. No one else.”
- She paused in front of her desk and dropped Isabel’s phone on it with a loud thud.
- Seeing how Danika dropped her phone, Isabel rushed to the desk and gripped the phone scanning it for any damages.
- Scoffs, Danika uttered, “that’s iPhone 6. Not like it’s a big phone anyway. So don’t jitter about sustaining damages.”
- Isabel gritted her teeth, feeling a surge of anger blasting her heart but she lolled herself by sucking in a gulping breath.
- “I’m so glad you informed me about this, doll. You can leave. I've got some important calls to make.” She gestured for Isabel to leave and the latter gave a slight nod before exiting the office.
- In one brief moment, Danika clutched her phone and beeped Lucas in a call.
- “Hey, daddy!!” She spat, fiddling with her hair strand.
- At that moment, Lucas was in his car driving home.
- “What’s it, Danika?” He asked, bisecting his right brow.
- “To think you’re still being rude despite knowing you'd be needing my help.” She scoffed.
- Lucas heard her cackle after speaking and he shook his head, annoyed. Speaking with Danika is like forcing a child to eat their allergic food.
- “What do I owe this call, missy?” Lucas asked, spinning the steering wheel as he dived into the street by his right.
- “To check if your blood pressure is still normal. I bet you’re breathing heavily now.”
- He heard her say, chuckling lightly.
- “To check my blood pressure? What are you insinuating Danika Wood?” Still befuddled by her words, Lucas questioned.
- “Oh, please, cut your fucking pretense, Lucas Evangelista.” She yelped. “You think I haven’t heard about the recent issues the Evangelista group is facing?”
- The moment Danika spewed this, Lucas screeched his car to a halt beside a grocery store. The light stationed in front of the store fizzed into his car, striking Lucas’s face.
- “You what!?” He asked with a heavy breath.
- “Daddy, I heard about your current problem! It has dispersed the whole country. Everyone now knows the fucking crisis you’re facing. So, how do you expect me not to know about that too?”
- The excitement seeping from Danika’s voice crept into Lucas’s ear.
- ‘Fucking bitch! I know this will excite her!’ He howled inwardly, slamming his fist on the steering wheel, veins hunched on the side of his head.
- “Really? It’s good to know. I’m glad you know. I bet you’re happy with my setback. You always are.” Lucas spoke incoherently, gnawing his tongue.
- “Daddy Lucas, it makes me happy because you are starting to realize you’re a void without me. Without my family. You think your late uncle isn’t aware of your weakness before issuing the contract with my mother?” Paused, she sniffled.
- “Lucas you’re nothing. I am the only woman that can illuminate your world and set things right. Without me…oh dear you’ll turn into a slum boy. I’m certain you don’t want that to happen.” She cackled, mocking Lucas.
- The weight of Danika’s words crushes Lucas’s heart. He doesn’t want to believe her words but the truth it holds stares pointedly at him and that gnaws at his heart.
- ‘Maybe she’s right. I’m nothing. Maybe I’m really nothing!” He thought, puffing a laden breath.
- Lucas began doubting himself because ever since the company was demised to him, he has been facing one silly problem or the other. Nothing has improved since his reign. It’s like when Sia left him, she carried the luck she brought into his life.
- When Sia and Lucas dated, things were boiling down well in his life until the day he made that decision of ending things with her to marry Danika in order for him to retain his father’s properties.
- “Thank you Danika for painting the truth on my face.”
- Lucas’s face contorted with anger. He thinned his lips together, too ashamed to speak.
- “Aww…poor Lucas,” Danika uttered and Lucas imagined the triumphant smile that'll envelop her face.
- “You just have to accept me as yours. Be a good boy and your problems will be solved. Minus that, you’ll keep struggling, and in a fingers snap your company will fold and you’ll find yourself begging in the streets.” Danika stated.
- “Thank you, ma’am. I’ve heard all you said.” Lucas whisper-yelled into the phone.
- He heard Danika erupt into a fit of hysterical laughter. He could tell she’s enjoying his frustration at the moment and happy that he will soon beg for their help.
- He hates it but he can’t help it. If he really wants to save his company, he has to stick to the Wood family until the Monson group accepts his proposal.
- “Good boy! Catch up later!” Danika said and dropped the call.
- Lucas shrieked in disgust, fisting his hands on the steering wheel to suppress his anger.
- He rested his head on the wheel as his uncle’s words flicker in his head.
- “We need the Woods contact and power to excel more in the business world. Hera gave us that opportunity because of how close our families are. Your father would have done the same thing if he was alive.”
- To Lucas, this is a bitter truth but he has to accept it and secure his business.
- It grieves him to remember it was that very night he broached with his uncle about taking over the family’s business that he made a decision to end it all with Sia. To break up with the woman he loves.
- “fine. I accept to marry Danika.”
- His uncle smirked, “good boy! Better call it quit with that Sia girl. In two days' time, I’ll get you the documents to sign for the marriage contract and the one for the family’s property.”
- A sorrowful tear slipped from Lucas’s eyes. He raised his head from the wheel and dabbed his handkerchief on his face to dry his tears.
- However, Lucas’s eyes flitted toward the grocery store. He saw a woman standing in front of a man. From its looks, her back is exactly like Sia’s and the woman was practically ducking from the man's hold but it was all futile.
- Seeing that, a name slipped from Lucas’s lips.
- “Sia!” He called, eyes never drifting from the duo in front of the grocery store.
- Lucas unbuckled his seatbelt and flung his door open. Without looking at the road twice, he crossed to the other side.
- “Silas let go of me, you bastard!” Lucas heard the lady bark. Hearing the silky serene voice, Lucas confirmed it’s Sia. Then he quickened his pace.
- “Why? Are you shy to let the public know about our little secret?” Silas worded to Sia, dragging her toward him.
- Sia hit his chest, stomping on his feet fiercely but Silas held her in a bruising grip so she can’t outmatch his strength.
- “You’re crazy to even think I shared anything with you. Let go of me…”
- Before Sia could speak further she heard a resounding blow land on Silas’s face.
- Stunned, she backed away and trailed her eyes on Lucas whose face contorted with anger.
- “The fuck!” Silas cursed spurting blood from his mouth.
- Sia couldn’t process what just happened.
- Out of nowhere, Lucas appeared and hit Silas.
- Silas Monson!!
- “Who the fuck are you?” Silas scrunched up his brows quizzically.
- “That’s not the case now! You dare try to hurt her!”
- Angrily, Lucas sent another fist across Silas’s jaw, knocking out blood from his lips.
- Silas felt giddy instantly but managed to steady his pose. He looked at Sia and asked, “You hired riffraff to hit me, Sia?”
- Sia was too shocked to speak. Her eyes were shuffling between Silas and Lucas.
- Suddenly, Lucas gripped her wrist and dragged her away toward his car.
- When they stopped in front of Lucas’s car, Sia rashly flicked her hand from Lucas’s grip.
- She looked him in the eyes and cackled.
- “What was that?” She asked, voice cold.
- “Sia, I saw how he held you in a vise grip. He was hurting you…”
- “And then what?” She asked, interrupting him. “You saw him holding me in a vice grip and you dived in to play the hero?” She sputtered, clapping her hands.
- “Well then, the trophy goes to you, Lucas Evangelista!” She cackled, twisting her head.
- “Sia…” Lucas tried to inch closer to her but Sia held her hand up to squelch him from stepping forward.
- “Lucas, you’re in no way better than him! You hear me!? Don’t you ever infiltrate yourself in matters that don’t concern you!” She barked.
- Without waiting for Lucas to spew a word, Sia headed back to the road and stopped a cab.
- “Sia! Please wait!” Lucas called out but Sia ignored him and wriggle into the cab, slamming the door shut.
- “Oh shit!!” Lucas yelled, hitting his fist on his car. His disheveled hair, stuck to his face. Angrily, Lucas twiddle it backward and stepped into his car. He sparked the engine and drove into the horizon.
