Chapter 17 Wonder

  • “OMG!! The Monson group is really a huge place, girl. I never imagined it to be so gigantic like this!” Danika’s friend, Isabel chirped as their elevator dinge to a stop on one of the floors of the company.
  • Isabel is Danika’s toy friend that blindly obeys Danika’s orders just so she could reap some favor from her.
  • They both attended high school together but Isabel hail from an average-income family, hence she’s not as rich as Danika.
  • Consequent to the need to curry favor from Danika, Isabel swallows all obscene words thrown her way. Recently, Danika established a big boutique in town and made Isabel the manager of the boutique.
  • Being a new establishment, Danika’s still endeavoring to brim the boutique with different men's and women’s clothing and footwear, hence her reason for coming to the Monson group is to purchase these wears as many goods as possible.
  • Flipping her hair strand behind her ear, Danika scowled, “Can you stop overreacting?”
  • Heedless of the irritation that spiced Danika’s words, Isabel chuckled sheepishly, “It’s not overreacting, girl! This is literally one of the tallest buildings in the world and Mr. Monson is one of the richest people in the whole universe. Don’t you get the whole thing?” Isabel rambled on, throwing her hands in the air.
  • Rolling her eyes heavenward, Danika hurled in contempt, “Yeah right. The biggest building indeed…”
  • Their heels clanked on the marble floors as they tottered to the section where women’s shoes are produced.
  • Isabel took Danika’s response as a cue; therefore, she boomed Danika’s ears with her ramble of words “tell me what company makes visitors go through thorough frisk before allowing them in.” She snorted, combing her hair backward with her hand, her bag looped in her arm.
  • “Not some ordinary frisk, but with a machine. I’m utterly stunned, for real…” Isabel swallowed her words when Danika tersely halted in her tracks and whirled, facing her.
  • “So you’re still this naïve? You’ve not seen a frisky machine before or you’ve never been checked with one, tell me?” Danika questioned, holding Isabel’s gaze.
  • The latter began feeling shy, fiddling with her fingers. Her eyes were pinned on the floor while Danika waited to hear her response. Although she already knows what the answer will be, Isabel doesn’t know a thing or two.
  • If not for the scholarship she gained, Danika doubts if Isabel would’ve attended high school in any way.
  • “Well, you know…” Isabel began talking but Danika squelched her words with a wave of her hand.
  • “Because you haven’t seen one. So pathetic.” Danika hissed, rolling her eyes at Isabel.
  • “Yes, absolutely. So I’m surprised to see one. Gosh, I wonder what his wife would look like…” Isabel paused, pinching her index finger on her forehead, mind dunk in a snappy thought. “Oh, speaking of which. Do you know, the recent rumors flying around?” She asked, trying to meet up with Danika’s long strides.
  • “What rumors?” Danika asked, her voice steely. Her interest isn’t in whatever Isabel was rambling on rather it’s more focused on Sia. Since the night after the party, she had been feeling coils of jealousy in her throat.
  • Her little act worked wonders as Lucas acted nice to her, and pleased her in the bit way possible that night but Danika knows it won’t last before Lucas goes back to being the indifferent, cold man he used to be.
  • Danika wants to tear Sia apart, erase her from Lucas’s life and mind so her man would be all hers to claim.
  • She maintained her long strides with thoughts whirling her mind but Isabel’s words drew her rational senses back.
  • “I heard Mr. Monson’s dead and the widow, his wife will take over. Can you believe this? A woman will sit in possession of all these amazing things!?” Isabel spat, squealing reflexively.
  • Danika drew to an abrupt stop when Isabel’s screaming became too annoying and attention-grabbing. She twirled and faced Isabel, anger seeping through her veins.
  • “I can’t believe you don’t have manners up until now, Isabel!” Danika snapped as her friend’s silly behavior tipped her off the edge. “Don’t you see you're drawing people's freaking attention?” She asked, her steely voice sending tremor shivers down Isabel’s spine.
  • “I…I’m sorry Danika. I acted out of sheer reflex. I promise it won’t happen again.” Isabel apologized, head angled downward.
  • “That’s it…Sorry this Danika…sorry that Danika! Heck! Is this how you'll manage the boutique!?”
  • Hearing that sudden question, Isabel raised her head, meeting Danika's gaze.
  • “Of course not, I’ll handle it well believe me,” Isabel said, shaking her head.
  • “You’ll handle it well by rattling like a moron? You better not disappoint me.” Danika worded, voice cold as icicles.
  • However, Sia and Rebekah were just about to shove out of the women’s footwear section after their tour in the area. Hence as Sia budged the door to slide outside, Danika turned tersely to budge the door open but mistakenly bumped into Sia.
  • Their heads crashed making blackness creep at the corner of their eyes. Danika wasn’t able to steady her pose hence she tripped and plopped on the floor with a loud thud, yelping.
  • On the other hand, Rebekah helped Sia to school her to stand on her feet, preventing her from hitting the floor.
  • “Are you good, ma’am?” Rebekah asked.
  • Sia inclined her head in a sharp nod, “Yes. I am. Thank you.” She croaked, her hand wrapped around her forehead.
  • Seeing what happened, the people around thundered a loud shriek of shock, mouthing sorry to both women.
  • Isabel rushed to help pull Danika up but the latter backhanded her out of anger.
  • “Get your hands off me, idiot!” Danika shouted, kneading her forehead that got smashed with Sia’s.
  • “Who did this!?” Danika asked, eyes flitting around until they locked with Sia’s. Immediately Danika sighted Sia, her annoyance shifted to anger.
  • She propped up on her feet and rushed toward Sia to resound her face but Sia caught her in time.
  • “You pushed me, you slum girl!” Danika barked, trying to free her hand from Sia’s.
  • “And? You want to come straight and lay your filthy hands on my face? Who do you think you’re?” Sia’s words got spiced with irritation at Danika’s sudden act.
  • The sight of Danika is becoming a nuisance to Sia and seeing her trying to lay on finger on her body made Sia more outraged.
  • “Haha…” Danika bleeped a mocking laughter at Sia, hearing her abrupt question.
  • “Oh, you don’t know who I am?” She scooted close to Sia, burning her eyes into Sia’s.
  • Sia could see the vicious gleam perched at the corners of Danika’s eyes and knew there and then their hatred for each other is mutual.
  • The only thing that differs is that Sia isn’t ready to be bickering words and fighting over something as meaningless as this.
  • “Well, let me remind you. I’m Lucas Evangelista’s fiancée and soon-to-be wife. Does it sink in now?” Danika quirked her brows, questionably.
  • Sia was embittered hearing this- soon-to-be wife?
  • Soon-to-be, wife?
  • ‘Lucas and his soon-to-be wife are full of themselves, I see. Well, I wonder how long this pride will last when I begin to strike.’ Sia mused inwardly, her eyes never straying from Danika’s.
  • “Indeed soon-to-be wife. I see that’s your daily mantra. Lucas Evangelista’s fiancée…” Sia scowled.
  • However, Danika isn’t the least bit affected by Sia’s words, she pressed on with her words.
  • “Yes, it’s my daily mantra and I’m so proud of it unlike you who depends solely on confiscating people’s fiancé and following sugar daddies around.” Danika’s lips parted in a wolfish grin.
  • Danika’s last words prickled Sia’s anger.
  • She knot her fist, ready to strike but instinctively held herself back.
  • “Are you holding back from striking me? Tsk…tsk…that shows it’s all true. You’ve sugar daddies you sell your body to just so you could survive.” Danika spewed further.
  • However. Rebekah and Isabel stood there confused at what the ladies were bickering about. Rebekah could pinpoint that Danika doesn’t know who Sia actually is that’s why she’s mouthing rubbish from her lips.
  • ‘I wonder how Mrs. Monson slurps these obscene words. If I were her, I’d have this shameless lady arrested.’ Rebekah thought.
  • Sia made to ignore Danika’s gibberish words by continuing strolling away from her presence but Danika’s next words made Sia to stop.
  • “Are you looking for a job? I guess your sugar daddy can’t provide you with a good job except for sex. Well, you could be my janitor. I'll have you flush my shits every minute I defecate. How about that?”
  • These words stroke a chord in Rebekah’s mind, she paused and endeavored to retort Danika’s words but Sia butted in before she could.
  • “Watch your mouth. I warn you, Lucas’s soon-to-be wife.” Sia drawled, smirking. She turned to Rebekah and snapped, “lead the way, please. I’ve got no fraction of time to squander with illiterates.”
  • After saying these, Sia picked up her pace, walking in tow with Rebekah. When they were out of sight. Danika howled, knotting her fist together.
  • “Omigod! Did you see how pretty that lady looked? Who is she?” Isabel asked, admiring Sia’s body heedless of the fact that her words stirred Danika’s jealousy.
  • A resounding slap landed on Isabel’s face, making her turn to face Danika. Shock expression on her face.
  • “Why!?” she asked.
  • “To recollect your stupid mind. Now, pick my bag!” Danika commanded and Isabel knows better than to rebel.
  • She hunkered down and clamped Danika’s bag from the floor, handing it out to her.
  • “Good girl, now let’s proceed with what we came here to do.” Danika cooed, turning her back to Isabel as she crept into the section.
  • As they gravitated around, ordering for the best collection of men's and women’s shoes, Isabel's words oscillated in her mind.
  • “Who is she?”
  • These three words feasted in Danika’s mind.
  • ‘I'd like to find out who her sugar daddy is. Trust me I’ll disgrace her big time.’ Danika thought, fury evident in her eyes.
