Chapter 11 Taunt

  • Lucas hobbled to his car's trunk to clutch the shopping bags he arrived with. He feels utterly exhausted after a long day.
  • He had to force himself to the boutique this evening just so he can get tuxedo and a dress for himself and Danika for tomorrow’s event.
  • Ethan and Lucas have been friends for years. Considering the level of their relationship, Lucas feels it’s of primal importance he looks his best on his friends engagement party.
  • All these while, Lucas has been helping Ethan to fix a few things for the engagement party. So after tomorrow, things will go back to normal.
  • Sometimes prepping for parties like this usually takes a toll. Even though Lucas is not the one prepping for his engagement party, he has stressed a lot ‘cause of it.
  • “Good evening, Mr. Lucas.” Mike’s voice flashed in his ears as he trailed to the threshold.
  • “Hmm.” Too tired to word something, Lucas crooned, making his way to the entrance.
  • Finally, Lucas perched his feet in the house, making his way to the flight of stairs. However, he stopped on his tracks when he smelt something burning.
  • He dropped his bags on the floor and swayed to the kitchen where he met Danika coughing and fanning her hands for an air grasp as smoke veiled the kitchen.
  • Upon seeing what was happening, Lucas rushed inside and gripped the extinguisher. He sprayed it on the cooking gas and the fire instantly stopped.
  • “What did you think you’re doing? You want to set my house ablaze?” He asked, voice steely.
  • Danika sucked in a long breath of air, tucked her hair strands behind her ear and held Lucas’s gaze, appalled by his sarcastic words.
  • “Are you blind, Lucas?” She questioned and Lucas was thrown off guard by her question. “What does it look like I’m doing?” She added.
  • Lucas smirked, licking his dry lower lip- one of quirks about him that Danika finds incredibly attractive.
  • “Cooking?” He shook his head, annoyed. “You don’t know how to handle anything and to think you’re here trying to burn down this house in the name of cooking? “
  • “Lucas don’t diss me. I was just trying to make something for you to eat, can’t you see I’m learning to be better every day?” Danika didn’t hide her annoyance as she spoke.
  • Lucas is so good in reminding her she can’t do anything. Not like she cares but having him constantly reminding her about that makes Danika burn with fury.
  • “Just quit it okay? You already know I can’t take anything that comes from you…”
  • “Really? Says Mr. Evangelista that hungers for contract so he can save his family’s business from crumbling.
  • Lucas’s body stiffened at the mention of the contract. The contract that fixed him in this spot. He just hates it and hates himself.
  • He allowed Danika and her mother to be controlling him.
  • ‘How I wish the Monson’s will accept this proposal of mine so I can get resources elsewhere and not just rely on this stupid Wood family. I fucking…desperately need them to accept this proposal. It'll be a great water shed for me.’ Lucas’s mind swayed to different angles of hope, desperation, frustration and anger
  • “You’re right Lucas, I’m not good in anything but in bed and in keeping this contract I’m definitely a badass in it.” Danika spewed, stealthily creeping close to him.
  • “So Lucas, come to terms with this. You’re nothing without the help of the Wood family. Without my help and my mothers. You know, if not for this contract, that name Evangelista won’t be existing again. You'd find yourself, your ass in the slum…” She laughed, seeing the pathetic look on Lucas’s face.
  • “I’m quite sure you know what I mean. So hun just mellow yourself in front of me. So things will work out well between us.” Danika crawled her hand to his groin and touched Lucas’s cock, making him jerk.
  • “Stop this!!” He snapped, rashly. Lucas hefted his hand and nestled it in Danika’s shoulder, huffing. “You’re right. Everything you said makes a whole lot of sense Danika Wood. But no matter what I still have a say in this villa. It’s my abode and you’ve yours. You know what Danika, it’s time we stopped living together.”
  • “What? Oh, don’t be ridiculous Lucas. We’re engaged and I’ve every right to stay here.” She barked, whipping her hair backward.
  • “You don’t. We haven’t tied the knot have we? So you can only stay here when we eventually marry.”
  • “I’m not leaving this house!!” Danika began to rout, following Lucas from behind. When they got to the staircase, he paused and picked up of the shopping bags handing it to Danika.
  • “That’s what you’ll wear for tomorrow.” He addressed not sparing her a glance.
  • “This is all nonsense. Just look, your friend is getting married soon and we’ve been fucking engaged for Six damn years, Lucas.” She yelled and threw the bag at Lucas’s back, startling him.
  • Lucas balled his fist as a lava of fierce rage erupted inside him. He rushed down the stairs and enchained Danika’s jaw in his rough hand.
  • “What did you just do?” He barked.
  • Danika loves to this side of him. That side he usually hides whenever her mother Hera is around.
  • She laughed, lightly. “What do you think it is? Of course, I threw the fucking bag at you so you could think like a man!! Do you know the shame I endure whenever I’m with my friends?” She rolled her eyes in contempt.
  • However, Lucas’s anger was beginning to melt , so he gently pulled off his hand from her jaw.
  • “I’ve been fucking engaged to you asshole for Six Years. Who does that?”
  • “Danika I’m done discussing this with you. To hell with whatever you think!” Lucas’s voice boomed as he trailed the stairs.
  • Arriving in his room, Lucas flopped on the bed, sighing.
  • He has been applying for some kind of partnership with one of the Monson’s group but after Mr. Monson’s death, his proposal has been left hanging.
  • He’s yet to see the person that will lead now since Monson’s dead. He needs it desperately so he can free himself from the clutches of Danika and her mother Hera.
  • Lucas reached for his phone inside his pocket and called his assistant.
  • “Grey, any news yet about the proposal we sent to the Monson’s group?” His baritone voice pierced the air.
  • “Not at all Mr. CEO. I heard the widow hasn’t taken over yet. There are some rumors circulating around that the Widow, Mr. Monson’s wife will take over. Although, no one knows who this widow is.” Grey’s voice reverberated.
  • “Widow?” Lucas asked, feeling slightly unease hearing that Mr. Monson’s wife will take over. Will she prefer to work with him?
  • Before Mr. Monson’s death, he was already on the brink of approving Lucas’s proposal. They were just on the finishing touches of gathering the documents Mr.Monson requested for but then he heard the shocking news of his life.
  • Mr. Monson’s death annoyed Lucas more than it annoyed anyone else.
  • That’s a contract that was just about being approved and things went wrong.
  • And Lucas had his hope in it so he could find somewhere else to rely on.
  • “Yes, Mr. CEO, they call her the widow. Don’t worry, whenever I get an update about the Monson group I’ll inform you sir.” Grey assured.
  • “Very well then. Keep me posted. Bye.” Lucas hung down the call and slumped on his bed, thinking.
  • He has this knots jerking in his stomach that the widow might not accept this proposal.
  • “Lucas quit being negative. The proposal is mouthwatering and I’m sure she won’t hesitate in accepting it. She definitely won’t.” He muttered to himself.
