Chapter 27 Plead

  • Lucas began pacing back and forth in the living room rolling his hands on his face and hair, frustration eating him up. You could hear every hitch of breath he took. His eyes began blinking rapidly while Ethan and Estrella glued their eyes to him.
  • Ethan was still trying to understand what happened but none of them could voice out the truth.
  • “She knows something. She does.” Lucas strung up the words and wheezed with gnashed teeth.
  • “She knows what? What the heck are you talking about, Lucas?” Ethan asked.
  • He whirled around, facing Estrella who hid behind him, his eyes begged for answers but she couldn’t talk.
  • “Tell me what’s going on?” Ethan demanded, his voice suddenly growing cold.
  • Estrella could see the walls of doubt Ethan was on the verge of building and she immediately spoke up to tug him out of that part his mind trod in.
  • “It’s not about us Ethan.” She strangled on her words, sucking in a harsh air she continued. “He’s asking me about Sia!”
  • Hearing this, Ethan’s doubtful mind receded. Now, they both veered their eyes to Lucas who was pacing back and forth.
  • “Hey man…”
  • Ethan tried to calm Lucas down but he'd rather get answers than be placated.
  • His heart is heavy with words- words that he has harbored for years to spew to Sia. He won’t be comfortable until he lets it all out. Until he clarifies her and tell her it isn’t what she thought. That he never really wagered with anyone to date her. That she meant the whole world to him. There is a lot that needs to be let out maybe after that, he'd be at rest.
  • But Estrella isn’t helping issues. She doesn’t understand what he’s passing through at the moment. The pains, anger, self-blame, and hatred that’s whooping his mind every now and then. She really doesn’t because if she does, she wouldn’t waste time telling him all he needs to know about Sia.
  • Does he still have a chance to win her back?
  • Will she ever accept him?
  • Will she ever forgive him?
  • “No Ethan!” He cut him off with a wave of his hand. “She knows something. I want her to tell me what she knows. All that she knows.” Lucas shot Estrella pleading eyes likewise Ethan who had been trying to drill information about Sia from her but she shook her head ‘no,’
  • “I’m sorry Lucas but I choose to protect my friend. Just like Ethan watch out your back for you.” She spewed.
  • “That's unreasonable!!!” Lucas routed, knotting his hands into fist, his breath roaring. “Estrella!” He called, closing in on her but Estrella drew backward blocking herself with Ethan’s back.
  • “You fucking don’t understand. Sia…” Lucas stumbled on his words immediately when what he said to her six years ago flashed back in his mind.
  • “It’s over Sia.”
  • “It was all a game!”
  • “Fuck!!” He cussed, puffing a gust of air from his nose.
  • “Sia and I…we were one. Estrella just tell me what you know. I fucking need to speak with her. I fucking do. Please.”
  • His eyes were pleading. His lips were quivering. His breath roaring and his hands trembling. Lucas was far from okay at the moment. Only dredging up answers will sate him.
  • “I made Sia a promise and that’s to keep everything between us. So you can’t expect me to divulge everything about her to you.” Estrella said, shaking her head. “If she wants you to know, she'll let you know. If not, you won’t until the right time to know comes. I can’t help you with this Lucas. I really can’t.”
  • After saying this, Estrella turned on her heels and began making a trail on the flight of stairs but Lucas’s words stopped her in her tracks.
  • “Can you please give me her number? Her cell phone number.” He asked.
  • Estrella’s body turned frigid entirely. She puffed out air from her ajar lips and bashed her eyes on Ethan who sent her a pleading look as well.
  • Rolling her eyes, she trod back down and stood in front of Lucas.
  • “If I do this. Don’t ever let her know I gave you her number. Can I trust you?” Estrella’s voice was slightly above a whisper as she said these. Lucas impetuously nodded his head.
  • “I promise I won’t.” He jibbed.
  • “Fine, hand me your phone.” She stretched out her hand and Lucas planted his phone in her hand.
  • Swiping the screen, Estrella programmed Sia’s number inside and handed it back to him.
  • “Good luck, Lucas.” She lastly said and made a trail to their room.
  • Lucas directed his eyes to Ethan but he just shrugged.
  • Then they both exited the house to the garage where they piled up in the car.
  • “She told you something didn’t she?” Lucas asked immediately Ethan stepped on the gas pedal.
  • Ethan shrugged.
  • “Swears dude, Estrella refused to spill shit about Sia despite how I tried to confiscate words from her lips,” Ethan replied and in response, Lucas nodded.
  • They drove off and the drive to the golf course was met with an insanely awkward silence as Lucas’s mind was dipped in a whirlpool of thoughts and Ethan knows better than to disturb him.
  • Moments later, they arrived at the course and Adriano was already there waiting patiently. When he saw their car pulling in he advanced toward them.
  • “hehe…you both wasted my time and you sure know how to pay me for waiting long, do you?” Adriano worded while shaking hands with Lucas and Ethan.
  • “A woman isn’t it?” Ethan quipped.
  • “That’s it, man. A fucking sexy woman!” Adriano laughed. He then noticed how quiet Lucas is and whirled his eyes to Ethan, mouthing.
  • “What the heck happened to him?”
  • Ethan shrugged and mouthed, “Women stuff. Sia girl you know…”
  • Hearing that, Adriano shook his head. They trod to their stead so they could begin playing.
  • All the while, Lucas wasn’t himself. He kept failing unlike before.
  • “Aha!” Adriano exclaimed when he scored five points and Lucas scored one.
  • Reaching out for his white facecloth, Adriano wiped off the beads of sweat on his face while taunting Lucas.
  • “Thought you're pretty adept in golf man? The all-rounder master of golf is now at my mercy, hahaha… “ Both Ethan and Adriano laughed seeing the creased frown on Lucas’s face.
  • “That’s life’s twist and turns.” Ethan butts in, laughing.
  • “And it’s my turn to win the master of the game. Yay!! All hail the new golf king!” Adriano stood up, swinging his gold club between his fingertips.
  • “Don’t be too presumptuous, you fool.” Lucas angrily spat cutting Adriano from his rasps of praise.
  • “Really? Dude, you finally said something! I thought you were going to be dumb throughout today’s game.” Adriano asked, surprised.
  • As if regretting ever speaking, Lucas shot Adriano a death glare, spitting on the ground.
  • “I don’t have your fucking time, Adriano,” Lucas said as he tailed toward the gate at a fast angry pace.
  • “I think he’s becoming insanely frustrated, don’t you think?” Adriano asked Ethan as they both stared at Lucas’s ebbing figure.
  • “I know right?” Hands-on hip, Ethan said nodding his head.
  • Now facing Ethan, Adriano blurted out, “You see why I hate women and love stuff? It’s all going to make you lose your mind without knowing. Depriving you of the fun and enjoyment that brim the world. But when you become more of a flirt...hehe…you'd be less hassled by all these frivolities called love and sticking one woman.”
  • “So are you saying we ain’t enjoying the world?” Ethan asked, a hint of amusement evident in his eyes.
  • “Apparently. Take my advice…be a flirt. It’s for your own good man.” Inching closer, he tapped on Ethan’s shoulders.
  • “Even at my worst dilemma, dude I ain’t going take your advice. Never!!” Ethan drawled, laughing.
  • “Suit yourself, love bird!” Adriano taunted.
  • However, Lucas went outside to knit his shattering thoughts together.
  • His thinking about his company- the Evangelista’s group.
  • He’s thinking about his life with Danika.
  • And also thinking about Sia.
  • His mind is fogged. So fogged that he can’t process things again.
  • As he was traipsing, a small green ball hit his shin and Lucas looked down to see what actually hit him but he heard a tiny voice emerge in front of him.
  • “That’s not mine. It’s for Nica. It’s for Nica.”
  • Hearing that Lucas raised his head and ogled at the little girl with a pigtail hairstyle donned in an overall Jean with a turtleneck shirt. He wasn’t aware when a fleeting smile divorced his lips.
  • “Hey, little one. Is this yours?” He asked hefting the ball but the girl kept shouting.
  • “It’s for Nica. It’s for Nica. Not mine. For Nica.”
  • While she was saying they heard another tiny voice.
  • “Abbey!! Where are you?”
  • The little girl in front of Lucas shuddered.
  • “Oh, uncle…now she’s here.”
  • Their eyes locked and they both turned to look at the other little one in front of them who stood with her hands crossed over her chest and her eyes squinting.
