Chapter 26 You and No One Else

• “I don’t like ginger, so you shouldn’t bother with it. You’re a person of status, so it would be overbearing of me to have you boil me some ginger syrup.” Caitlin spoke with a lack of interest.
• Max’s eyes darkened. So you dislike ginger, huh? My wife hates ginger too! He felt a sudden joy over such a minute detail. “It’s okay, you can drink a bit of its juice if you don’t like eating them.” He left for the kitchen and began chopping on the gingers without even asking for her consent.
• Caitlin was thrown off by his behavior. Why isn’t he acting the way I expected him to? Where had that icy cold and heartless man gone to? “Hey, do you not understand my words? I told you I’m not having any of it!” Caitlin bounced off from her bed to go and stop him, but the sight of Max busying himself in the kitchen made her insides squirm, as such a warm scene shouldn’t exist between them. She didn’t believe for a second that he had fallen for her, as he was merely approaching her to confirm his own suspicions.
