Chapter 22 His Wife Had Returned
- Caitlin sent Max a text as soon as she retired to her room. ‘My apologies, President Cooper. I might have been unable to acclimatize to Ocean City and had thus made an application for a transfer back to the headquarters, while another designer will be working with you in my stead. Miss Pierce’s public apology was testament enough that I had been making things difficult. Since that is the case, it would be better if we were to part on good terms. Sincerely, Catherine.’ She turned her phone off after having sent the text, then dozed off while leaning against her bed.
- Max was startled when he received the message. That was his private number which not even Eliza knew of, as the line was cut five years ago after Caitlin perished in the fire. However, he would somehow resume using it again, and aside from his assistant Dexter, Caitlin would be the only other person to know this number.
- Catherine had sent him a message on this number, which Max didn’t believe that Dexter would have told Catherine—who was practically a stranger—this number, thus it would only make sense if she was Caitlin herself.
