Chapter 17

  • Jokes on her because the next morning, a new doctor came to attend to her and when she asked for the other doctor, she was told he was very busy, she didn’t see or hear from the doctor for the rest of the day. On the bright side, she was moved from the bed to a wheelchair and the doctor had told her she could sit on the wheelchair whenever she feels like getting off the bed, all she had to do was press the button next to her bed and a nurse would be in to help her get off the bed. Nora liked the idea as it would help her be able to get out of the hospital room and go find a place to call Rose herself. Surely, the hospital would have a call center or she might find someone kind enough to let her use their phone. The first time she asked the nurse to let her go out of her room, she had told her that wasn’t up to her and that she had to get the doctor’s approval so she told the doctor when he stopped by to see her that evening, at first, he had said no but after talking it over with him, he finally agreed but when she asked him to let her make a call, he told her no and left.

  • Nora wheeled herself out of her room on her own, the nurse told her she couldn’t go too far, she didn’t mind, she just wanted to be away from that room as it was almost suffocating to be in there and in her head all day, they refused to give her anything or listen to her when she asked to speak with Roseline. It was as if everything she was saying was not heard and they only listen to the boss who still haven’t shown his face even though it has been three whole days since she woke up, not like she wanted him around as his presence would only harm her, she just wanted to be free and be allowed to go back home, she didn’t even care anymore that she couldn’t do the research she came for, it was clear those people didn’t even care about her welfare because why else would they not have found her already when she has been missing for more than a week. Surely, Elio would have told them she got in trouble, if they had been looking for her, all they had to do was check airport CCTV and they would have been able to trace her but she was sure they weren’t even looking for her. If she is ever able to get out of this place on her own, she would be pressing charges against them for not looking out for her well-being even though it was in the contract that they signed before she took the job. On second thought, she didn’t think she would be able to bear being reminded of what happened to her and she might be forced to narrate her story in court and it might take time for the case to be finalized. She wasn’t mentally or physically ready for that so she might end up not pressing charges, she just wanted to get out of this place and go back home.
