• I couldn’t sleep. Not after what my father had said to me. It was wrong. So wrong in so many ways. He wanted me to be as brutal as he was. Claiming that I wasn’t strong enough to lead the pack because I didn’t understand what staring at blood or gore felt like. I didn’t need to feel that to understand what life was about. But he had forced me to. And now, I found myself heading for a mission I didn’t want to do.
• I stirred on the bed staring at the ceiling wondering how I had gotten myself into this mess. I would be leaving the castle soon to go on the mission. The mission was a brutal one. It was a matter of life and death. I had to kill the Alpha and Luna of the werewolf pack that was giving my father a hard time. Not just my father, but the pack as a whole. I didn’t know what to do. I couldn't say no. And I couldn't run away. The Lycan pack was my responsibility. After my father was done with his ruling, I would be the one to step in to take control. I wasn’t sure that I was ready for that yet. After what he had told me in the courtroom a few hours ago, I wasn’t sure that I wanted to rule anymore. If this was what needed to be done, just so that I could become king, then I didn’t want to do it.
