Chapter 69 Doubts
- “I have to go. Call me when you’re in my office, and I’ll give you the safe code,” Diego demands, his voice strangely calm compared to a moment ago, though no less hostile.
- I take my time picking up the few items that spilled from my purse as I decide what to do. What should I say? Should I play dumb? Should I say I just arrived? Should I pretend I don’t know anything, smile, and wait expectantly for him to kiss me? Should I let him undress me? Have sex with me on his desk? In his bed? Even as horrified as I am with him right now, I would be lying if I said the idea of him touching me didn’t send a heat between my thighs. He has turned me into some kind of sexual deviant. But I can’t just sit here on my knees as if I’m waiting for him to unzip his pants.
- Finally, I dare to look up, just in time to see his hand stretched out in front of him, palm facing outward. It could be considered a gentlemanly gesture, and yet from Diego Star, I hear the command. Sliding my fingers over his calloused palm—he must have earned those splits in his hands—I stand up. I take a deep, calming breath before letting my gaze travel up his firm, hard body, his designer charcoal suit as perfect and out of place in the wilds of Alaska as on any other day, before looking into his eyes. The cold, steely blue in them instantly knots my stomach.
